CHAPTER 44
Aragorn will not regret bringing Yosef to his home village even though the track was far from the hut. He asked others if they wanted to join, but they said they cannot handle the long path to Yosef’s hometown. They were right. Aragorn wanted to rest for a while, not give up. He’s been riding the horse for more than two hours, yet the traces of villages weren’t still visible.
“Is it still far, Yosef?” he asked. It seemed Yosef did not feel any tiredness on their ride. He was smiling the whole time they were on their way. His smile looked like it froze with that smile.
“No, Your Highness. I think we’re going to arrive in five or ten minutes.”
Ten minutes, he thought, that wouldn’t be that long. He would be so happy when the two of them already arrived in their place. Aside from making Yosef happy, he also wanted to travel the whole palace of Caspian to observe and look at the faces of the people who needed the help of the royal family.
“My mother would be so happy to cook for you, Your Highness. She’s one of your family’s believes. She said the king and queen helped them a lot in our business. When she finds out that we’re on our way, she will cook delicious foods for the two of us. My mom is a great cook! You’d love her.”
“It is my pleasure to taste the dishes that your mom cooks.”
“My grandmother’s also a great cook, but her eyesight turned blurry because of her age. She’s just lying on her bed.”
Poor grandma, he thought. How can someone enjoy life without vision? Vision makes the world fantastic. Vision is the one creating the world.
“How does she entertain herself?”
“Sometimes, she hums songs alone. She said it will attract good luck in our house. But my mother doesn’t believe in luck. She believes in hard work and honing the skills.”
“My mother believes in kindness to other people. She said if you give kindness to a person, you’ll also receive kindness. It can be from the same person or another person.
“I don’t think it’s a lie. The queen is one of the kindest people I knew. Do you know when someone wanted to frame the queen from the death of the queen dowager?”
Aragorn nodded. That fake friend who despised her mother just because the king didn’t love her back, he thought. And now that woman is dead without someone loving her. Even her father respected the king’s decision. At first, he spared her life, but the king explained more, and her father let things happen. She died because of her greediness.
“I did not believe that woman. We just arrived at the palace at that time, and that woman looked like a scam. Gladly, the servant that Hideo adores comes over and proves that the queen is innocent.”
He glanced to Yosef. “Hideo likes a servant in the palace?”
“I should’ve not told you more. Hideo told us not to tell anyone, but I cannot help myself from talking.” He zipped his mouth. He focused his eyes on the track.
“Tell more. I won’t tell Hideo that you told me. You made me curious.”
“He said that she’s a personal servant of the queen. She’s extraordinary, and she’s very cunning. He likes those kinds of women. A woman with substance. He said he likes her, and he’d try to ask her for marriage.”
“What happened when he asked her for marriage?”
“He got rejected. She’s really extraordinary, he said.”
“I thought Hideo was cold and silent, but it turned out he likes someone in the palace. My mother has two personal servants. Dina wasn’t extraordinary, and she wasn’t running. I guess it’s Lolita that you’re talking about.”
“Spare my life, Hideo,” Yosef whispered to himself. “I guess that’s the name, Your Highness.”
“I wish more for their future relationship. I guess Lolita wasn’t that bad to him. They can protect and take care of each other.”
“Like how you and Sphyra do?”
Aragorn’s eyebrows crossed, he stared at Yosef. “What did you say?”
Yosef shook his head and burst his laugh on himself. “Nothing, Your Highness. I guess we’re here in the village.”
Yosef’s right. Aragorn saw houses, some were beside each other, and some have small distances from each other. Houses were made of bricks and stones, different from the village where the fire happened. On the right side, women were doing laundry beside the river. Younger kids were chasing each other. Such a peaceful and happy place, he thought.
“Amara!” Yosef shouted. A girl stopped from running and glanced in their direction. A wide smile formed on her face. She hurdled towards Yosef as fast as she could. When she reached him, she wrapped her arms around him as if someone’s going to take Yosef to distant places.
“Older brother, how did you find your way here? You said you’re going to visit me for the next few years.” She glanced to Aragorn. “Who is he, older brother? I never saw his face. But he’s good-looking and clean.”
“He’s the crowned prince of Caspian.”
The young girl formed a circle on her face. “Is he the one you’re talking about the last time you visited here?”
Yosef nodded. “Definitely, he is.”
Amara leaned to and wrapped her arms around him. Aragorn shivered. He didn’t think that the girl’s going to hug him. But why did she does that? “Thank you for protecting my brother. Thank you for making him feel happier in training. Thank you for being by his side most of the time.”
“But I never did something to your brother?”
“He said you acted like his older brother. You protected him using the best way you can do. You made him feel that he’s not the oldest in our family. Since you’re like his older brother in your place? Then, I’m also your younger sister, right?”
