CHAPTER 41
Sphyra leaned her head to the glass window pane next to her. Rain was pouring hard outside. She can’t imagine herself in the forest wandering around with this heavy rain. Now, she’s inside the royal palace of Caspian. A place she never thought of going to.
The royal palace was dangerous for someone like her, where every person in Caspian wanted to capture her. She’s like the rarest gem, no, the most notorious criminal in the whole palace.
In few minutes, her whole body will ignite, and almost everything she’s near would be on fire. She grabbed the clothing the flame-resistant cloth that Aragorn gave her. It looked worn out inside. Maybe, she’ll buy another one once she had the opportunity to.
After wearing the clothing, she leaned back to the window. She thought of Aragorn in the hut. Was he also thinking of her? Of course no, she thought. It would be better if he’s just safe in where he was right now.
Zonia entered the room. On her hands was a tray of two bowls of meat soup. Zonia sat on her bed and smiled.
“Sphyra, let us eat. Lolita was the one who cooked this, and she’s one of the best cooks I’ve ever known. They were inviting us in the dining, but I said that you are resting.”
Sphyra stood up and sat in front of Zonia. She stared at the meat soup. She never cooks a dish like that, a dish with soup. Without a doubt, she grabbed hers and tasted it. She got one spoon of it every ten seconds, and in the end, she didn’t use the spoon. Instead, she gulped the soup using the bowl itself.
“I told you she’s great.”
“I hadn’t tasted this kind of food since I was born. I was thinking earlier if I’m going to like and I want more.”
Zonia chuckled. “What I heard is that Lolita cooked a lot. You can get more in the kitchen or in the dining.”
“Does Burn had eaten already? Is she fine in the palace garden?”
“There are spots in the garden where there are roofs. The queen visited Burn, and she was so entertained to her earlier. She said your dog had feelings, and she is so adorable. The queen had a heart. Don’t worry about her. You can visit her anytime.”
Their right that the queen had empathy for anyone, she thought. She stood up from her seat and walked to the door.
“Where are you going?” Zonia asked.
She grinned and showed her an empty bowl. “Gonna get some more.”
As far as she remembered, the dining was on her right. She followed her instincts and wished she’s on the right track, or else she might see the king. Glad that she’s wearing the flame-resistant clothing that stopped her from flaming. If not, every eye in the hallway would lay on her.
She got boosted after seeing the familiar door of the dining. She heard two women talking inside before she entered.
“I told you, Lolita. That woman is something. She’s just new here, and she didn’t want to eat with us. Is she a consort or a queen? That’s why she chose to eat inside her room? She treats Zonia like her servant. If I’m going to face her, I’ll make her realize that she’s not the boss.”
Zonia had told her about Dina’s attitude towards newcomers. But she also said that she has an innocent heart. She needed to understand her since she’s the older one.
“I told you to stop overthinking about her. It won’t benefit you, and it won’t put your mind on peace.”
She showed herself to them, and the bowl pretended that she didn’t hear anything. Dina shoved her face away from Sphyra while Lolita grinned at her and stopped eating.
“Sphyra!” Lolita greeted. “Do you have anything?”
“I like your soup a lot. If it’s still available, I would like to get another soup.”
“No, it’s not available anymore,” Dina answered sarcastically.
“Dina!” Lolita said like an older sister. “Apologies, Sphyra. It’s still available. Let me have your bowl, and I’ll put some in it.”
Sphyra lent her bowl to Lolita. She didn’t dare to listen more to Dina. She’ll laugh out loud if she’ll ever dare to.
“I’m going to let Veneer tastes your soup.” She glanced at the pot in between her and Lolita. It’s not emptied because Lolita put the remaining soup in Sphyra’s bowl. “And now we don’t have anything left.”
“Shut up, Dina. I cooked a lot, and you can feed twenty persons with it. Just go to the kitchen for more.” She gave the bowl filled with soup back to Sphyra. “Here it is. Don’t mind her.”
“Thank you.” Sphyra let her back faced the two servants.
“Aren’t you going to eat with us?”
She turned to them again. “Apologies. I prefer eating alone, but I will try next time.” She strode to the door and left the room.
“I told you that she’s not kind. She rejected your invitation for the second time. She has a terrible attitude, and we shouldn’t let her inside the palace.”
“Dina, you’ve been acting crazy over Sphyra. She never did anything wrong to any of us. Why are you acting like that? Do you know what? You’re the one who’s showing a hostile attitude towards her.”
“You don’t understand me, Lolita. I told you she’s not good.”
“You also thought about that to me, to Zonia, and now to Sphyra. Time will come, and I may hear another assumption from you. Let the person live and show herself to you. She wasn’t forcing you to like her, but at least respect. She’s older than the two of us, but you never showed respect to her.”
Dina gazed to the ground. Her heart was scratched by Lolita’s truths. Maybe what she’s thinking was fitting that she’ll lose her worth to her.
“I am just afraid.” A teardrop fell from her right eye and traveled to her cheeks and to her chin. “That if they’re going to arrive, I’m not going to be your friend anymore. That I’ll be just a person who doesn’t have any worth to you. You know how much I treasure you and our friendship, Sphyra. What will I become if I lose you?” She showed her swollen eyes and tears hailing from her eyes.
Lolita stood up and sat beside her. She wrapped her arms around her. “Why are you thinking of that? I told you that we’re friends and we’re sisters. I won’t let someone harm you, but I’m also teaching you that you need to learn how to respect others. If what you’re saying was right, then I would’ve completely left you because you’re not changing your bad attitude. But no, I’m still here by your side, and I still care and protect for you.”
Dina cried her tears out. All she was thinking was wrong. She should never assume again. She wrapped her arms around Lolita.
“I will also protect you, Lolita. I will never leave you. When the time comes that we have to leave the palace, we should still see each other again.”
“Of course, because we’re sisters. No one will hurt you, Dina, until I die.”
