CHAPTER 54
“You are going to try yourself on Hideo?” Dina asked Lolita when she revealed what she and Hideo talked about this morning. She only told Dina, Sphyra, Zonia, and Lola. She doesn’t know to those other servants, or else issues will arise in the royal palace.
They were drinking tea after they had their lunch. It seemed that the dining room was quiet, and it was only filled with their voices.
“It’s just… It wasn’t bad. I want to give him a chance. Everything wasn’t steer clear in my mind, and I want to assure my feelings towards him and towards us.”
“Older sister, you just rejected his marriage, and now you’re saying that you’re going to give him a chance. It’s not that I am against the two of you, but you already said no.”
“It doesn’t matter, Lola. What matters is that your older sister will pursue the man that she loves.” Sphyra giggled while thinking about Hideo and Lolita being together. That cold warrior fell in love with a cunning servant. Such a terrific romantic relationship she’s waiting to bloom.
“What do you know?” Dina asked. She rolled her eyes and stared at Lolita. “Lolita, don’t listen to them. I am your friend, and you should only listen to me.”
Instead of being annoyed, Sphyra and other girls laughed at Dina. Sometimes, she can’t really stop herself from being the annoyed and sassy servant of the palace. It’s like her eyebrows were always crossed.
“Lolita, you can hear suggestions from anyone. But the decision can only come from you. You’re just nineteen, but you decide on things with your smart mind. We’re just here to advise, but you’re the one who’s going to decide.” Zonia smiled at her.
“I don’t know if I really love him. But every time I see him, there’s this fire kindling inside my heart as if it wanted to go out. I’m happy when he’s around. I’m thinking of him when he’s not.”
“You’re in love” Sphyra slammed her balled fist on the table as if she’s the one who’s affected by Lolita’s feelings. “Just follow what you’re feeling right now. We support you.”
“Sphyra! Stop suggesting nonsense things to Lolita. You’re not helping her,” said Dina.
Lola asked. “Older sister, you must know what do you think of him first? I’m still young, and I don’t know anything about love and relationships. But I think you should know what is him to you.”
“Answer this question: What do you think of Hideo’s face?” Zonia asked.
“He’s handsome and attractive. He’s tanned, right? His eyes were the color of the ocean, and I can barely see his smiles. But every time he smiles, it’s something.”
“How about his personality?” Sphyra asked.
“He’s fine.”
“Just that? No more than that?” Disappointment flashed on Sphyra’s face.
“We can’t rate people’s attitudes, Sphyra. We can just say if they’re fine or they’re bad. Hideo’s not bad for Sphyra; that’s why she didn’t say anything more,” Dina said. “It seemed that you’re siding on Hideo.”
“It’s not like that, Dina. She just wants to know Lolita’s thoughts on Hideo.”
Dina snorted and leaned comfortably on her chair.
“Thank you for all of your advice. I’ll think about it and will let Hideo and I develop ourselves first.”
After having a tea, Dina stomped her way to the garden. She was frustrated, but she doesn’t know what she was frustrated with. She didn’t mind the greetings of other servants. She wanted to be alone at her favorite place.
She sat on a plant box when she arrived. She stared at the flowers blossoming and charming her. There were dozens of thoughts inside her brain. She wanted to clear everything out.
A man touched both of her shoulders. With that light and gentle touch, she knew that man.
“Why are you here again? What made you frustrated again, My Dear Dina.” Veneer sat beside her. He copied her position: Elbows crossed, right hand on her left knee. “I thought you already fought with your anger management.”
“Stop calling me that, Veneer. It just frustrates me more. I hate it!”
“What is it, My Dear Dina? What’s making you frustrated?”
“I said stop! It doesn’t feel right.”
Veneer chuckled. “Fine, I’ll stop. So, why are you here again? Is there a new servant in the palace that’s close to Lolita?”
“None. There are a lot of servants inside the palace that’s serving the king and queen. I should be the one to ask you the question? Why are you here every time I am here?
“I told you, I like practicing at this place.”
“I don’t believe you, Veneer.” She faced him. “You’re spying on me! You’re following me, right?”
Veneer laughed so hard. “What made you think of me like that? You’re not a pretty chick for me to spy on.”
It somehow created a hole inside Dina’s chest. She wholeheartedly accepted it. He was right; she wasn’t a chick whom anyone can like. She’s a servant, and she wasn’t attractive at all.
“I already expected that from you,” she almost whispered. “Most of the men whose part of the royal palace only like beautiful girls.”
“Hey, I’m not like that!”
“You just said so! You even said I’m not a pretty chick.”
“I said it, but you have an innocent heart.”
His statement cured the hole inside her heart. Her heart somehow managed to thump in happiness.
“Tell me, what frustrated you again, Dina. You’re only going here because you’re watering the plants, or you’re frustrated and angry. You’re not watering the plants right now, so I assumed that it’s the second reason why you’re here right now.”
“You’re such a mind reader. I don’t why I am frustrated, but I am.”
“What happened earlier? Maybe I can decipher it for you.”
She shrugged. “We just talk about Lolita giving a chance on Hideo. She already rejected him, and now she’s going to give her a chance.”
“What’s the matter with that? Lolita and Hideo were both smart citizens of Caspian. They were also both good-looking.” He gazed at her. “Don’t tell me you’re mad because you also like Hideo?”
“Veneer, I don’t! Hideo’s really good-looking, but I do not like him. I won’t like someone who likes my friend. That’s absurd. If Lolita will feel that the both of us were matched, she’s going to marry him. And if she’s going to marry him….”
“She’s going to leave the palace, and you’re going to be alone again without your favorite person,” he finished.
Alone. Alone. Alone. She’s going to be alone in the palace again.
She smiled bitterly and turned to him. “It’s fine as long as she’s happy. I’ll wholeheartedly accept and will be happy for her. It’s because she’s my sister.”
