CHAPTER 35 Dina was on her way to the garden. She was the one who’s assigned to take care of the queen’s plants if the queen was too busy with the duties she had to do which was rare to happen. The queen was on the king’s throne to help him in assessing the situation of the current problems that happened in the palace. A queen helping the king is the sweetest thing that can happen in the palace. Dina brought a watering can. Her mouth felt try because there’s no one to talk to. Lolita was busy preparing the food that the king had ordered. She teased her not to participate in cooking the food because she said Dina don’t know how to cook. She laughed at Dina, frustrating her. Dina was about to show herself to the plants in the garden when she saw a man practicing his sword on it. There’s the training ground where he can practice, she thought, why bother practicing in the garden. She knew this person wasn’t a bad guy. His back was beautiful and the basis for a person’s personality is his or her physique. She pretended she didn’t see there was a person in the garden. She headed to one of the plants and sprinkled the water on them. The plants raised after the water seeped into their leaves. Dina smiled. Plants made her happy. It was one of the things that made her feel calm. She felt that the guy who was practicing the sword had stopped. She can’t hear swords slashing through the air anymore. She hoped he left. She wasn’t curious about his face even though his back was one of the most beautiful she ever witnessed. Dina’s feet took a step towards the next set of plants when an arm clacked on her elbows. She stopped, raised her eyebrows, turned around, and was ready to show her b***h face to the guy. Her face swelled red and her eyebrows dropped as she saw the face of the man. “V-Veneer?” she said in a very low tonal voice. She didn’t think that her crush will be the one to practice in the queen’s garden. “Hey, Dina. Did not think that I’ll be seeing you here. What are you doing?” Of course, watering the plants, she thought. But she can’t say it especially to this guy who captured her fury heart. “The queen asked me to water the plants. Lolita’s busy so she’s not with me.” She wanted to leave him alone. She didn’t want to make the conversation longer. But her heart desires for more and longer. “How are you doing in the palace? I heard that you’re the queen’s favorite.” Is he really this open to topics? She believed. Part of the royal family was often cold and won’t start small talk to servants like her. He didn’t look like a p*****t. He’s not like that. He will not be like that. “I’m not the queen’s favorite. It is Lolita. She’s hardworking and she deserves it.” “When I first heard about you, I have an impression that you’re domineering. That’s what others say about you.” “So, is it wrong or right?” “Right.” Veneer laughed himself out. He made Dina gritted her teeth. “At least you can say that your friend deserves the favorite. I thought you don’t have any friends.” “How dare you to say that?” She knew she was doomed if she told that sentence to other people who are part of the royal family. She will be punished or she may even lose her job. Disrespecting anyone from the royal family is against the law. “It’s true, right. Name your friends if you truly have one.” Dina thought of names. She thought of people she can consider her friend. She frustrated herself out when she can only think of Lolita. Of course, it’s only Lolita. Lolita is her only friend. “Fine, you’re right! I don’t have a lot of friends. So what? I have Lolita who can stay by my side even though she had witnessed my worst side. Lolita is better than having too many friends. I’m not like you who can make millions of friendships all around the palace of Caspian. I’m no great compared to you.” “You are now praising Lolita where you threw shades on her back then.” “Stop! Past is past and you don’t have to talk about it more.” Veneer chuckled and snorted. “You’re right. Having a lot of friends isn’t always a benefit for someone like me. Do you know that someone betrayed me? A friend betrayed me?” “Of course, I don’t know about it. We’re not a friend and we didn’t talk a lot except for this moment. What happened with that betrayal? I’m curious to listen.” “I have this friend who’s very close to me while we’re training on the grounds. While we’re traveling around villages, one woman captured my attention. She was so beautiful and she’s walking with elegance. I like her that time and I asked my friend to help me in asking her.” He glanced at Dina and checked if she’s still listening. Her ears were all on him. He continued, “I thought he was really going to help me. He disappeared for days and when he showed himself again in the training grounds, he’s engaged to that woman whom I like. I thought he was my friend but he betrayed me. I am the nephew of the king but got betrayed by my friend.” “Fool! You’re the king’s nephew. You can always wish a woman if you like her.” “I don’t want that. I don’t want to force someone to love me back. Uncle Argon thought us to marry for the love, not for the benefits of the doubt. If I’m going to ask him to give me this woman to marry me, it would sound that I didn’t learn anything from and that’s disrespectful.” “You could’ve asked her by yourself. You’re really a fool.” “I could’ve done that but my former friend and she were living in the same village. How can I not use him to help me on her.” “You used him and he betrayed you. Next time, if you like someone, pursue her by yourself and not be dependent on other people. Goodbye. I still have to do a lot of things.” She left him alone in the garden. At least she said the right things.
