Chapter 13:Parting Ways and Hopes

2474 Words
After Lyka uncovers the truth about Veronica’s revenge, she feels conflicted and emotionally torn. Despite the hurt, Veronica is determined to make amends. Each day, Lyka finds a small note tucked into her locker, written in Veronica’s handwriting: "I'm truly sorry for everything, Lyka. I never intended to hurt you. Please forgive me." Along with the note, there’s a fresh flower—sometimes a rose, sometimes a daisy—placed carefully on her desk or inside her locker. These small gestures are Veronica’s way of showing her remorse and desire to mend their strained relationship. Gradually, Veronica’s sincere efforts begin to soften Lyka’s feelings. She starts to see that Veronica’s apologies come from the heart, and her anger begins to fade. Meanwhile, Mark, who works alongside Lyka, notices her changing attitude and growing closeness to Veronica. Seeing Lyka’s vulnerability and her subtle interactions with Veronica, Mark decides to step in. He begins to court Lyka quietly—offering to help her with work tasks, inviting her for coffee during breaks, and giving her small, thoughtful gifts that show he cares. One day, Lyka finds herself caught between lingering hurt and budding hope. She notices Mark waiting nearby, holding a flower himself, and feels a mixture of gratitude and confusion. She realizes her feelings are shifting, and she starts to consider whether she could forgive Veronica and see where her feelings might lead. The atmosphere is filled with a mix of hope, uncertainty, and the possibility of new beginnings. One day, Veronica finds out that Mark has been quietly courting Lyka. Feeling protective and perhaps a little jealous, Veronica decides to transfer Mark to another team, hoping to put an end to his interactions with Lyka. The next morning, Mark is surprised to learn he's been reassigned to a different team under another team leader. He’s visibly unhappy about it, feeling like his efforts to get closer to Lyka are being thwarted. Later that day, Mark approaches Lyka with a worried expression. "Lyka, I just found out Veronica transferred me to another team. I don’t understand why— I was trying to get to know you better, and now this?" Lyka, feeling confused and a bit upset, decides to confront Veronica directly. She finds Veronica in her office, voice firm and tinged with anger. Lyka: "Veronica, why did you transfer Mark? What’s your real intention behind that? Are you trying to keep us apart?" Veronica pauses, her eyes flickering with emotion. She hesitates before answering, but her tone remains assertive. Veronica: "Lyka, I didn’t do it to hurt you. I just thought it was best—if Mark is interested in you, I didn’t want it to cause any trouble within the team. I care about your happiness, and I thought it was the right thing to do." Lyka: (angrily) "You’re just trying to control everything, Veronica. You don’t get to decide who I can or cannot talk to. If you really care, then why are you pushing us apart? I deserve to know your real reason." Veronica looks away for a moment, visibly conflicted. She then takes a deep breath, trying to explain her feelings. Veronica: "Maybe I was wrong. I just... I didn’t want to lose you, Lyka. I messed up, and I’m sorry. I just want a chance to make things right." Lyka stands her ground, her eyes filled with a mix of frustration and hurt. She realizes that her feelings are complicated, but she’s determined to find out the truth and decide what’s best for her moving forward. Despite being transferred to a different team, Lyka didn’t let the distance weaken her bond with Mark. She continued to reach out to him during breaks, exchanging friendly messages and even helping him with work tasks when she could. Their conversations remained light and genuine, reminding both of them that their friendship was stronger than any team transfer. Mark appreciated Lyka’s effort and her unwavering support. "Thanks, Lyka. Even if we’re in different teams, I’m glad we’re still friends," he said one day with a smile. Lyka nodded, feeling grateful. "Of course, Mark. Nothing can change that." Meanwhile, Veronica watched from afar. Every time she saw Lyka chatting comfortably with Mark, a pang of jealousy stirred within her. She couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy seeing them so close, even if they were just friends. It made her realize how much she cared about Lyka—and how much she wanted to be the one to make her happy. One afternoon, Veronica found herself lingering near Lyka’s workspace, her heart pounding. She tried to hide her feelings, but her eyes betrayed her as she watched Lyka laughing at something Mark had said. A strange mix of admiration and longing washed over Veronica. Later, Veronica confronted her own feelings, realizing that her jealousy was a sign of how much she cared. She knew she needed to be honest with herself and with Lyka if she wanted to truly fix what had been broken. That evening, Veronica found herself lingering near Lyka’s desk, her heart pounding with nervousness. She knew she couldn’t keep pretending that seeing Lyka and Mark together didn’t sting. Finally gathering her courage, she approached cautiously. Veronica: "Lyka, can I talk to you for a moment?" Lyka looked up from her work, surprised to see Veronica standing nearby. She studied her for a moment before nodding. "Sure. What’s on your mind?" Veronica hesitated, then took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. Her voice was quiet but sincere. Veronica: "I’ve been holding this in for a while. I just want to be honest with you. I realized I care about you more than I admitted, and seeing you with Mark... it made me realize how much I’ve fallen for you. I was scared of losing you, so I transferred Mark, thinking I could keep you close, but I see now that it only pushed you away." For a moment, Lyka stayed silent, her expression cold and unreadable. Although Veronica was pouring out her feelings, Lyka’s heart remained distant—her feelings still tinged with the hurt from what Veronica had done before. She remembered the betrayal, the selfishness, and it didn’t fade easily. After a pause, Lyka looked at her with a calm but firm tone. "Veronica, I appreciate your honesty. But honestly, I’m still hurt about what happened before. I haven’t forgotten, and I’m not ready to forget. Your words are kind, but I need time to process everything." Veronica’s face fell, a wave of sadness crossing her eyes. Her heart ached at Lyka’s coldness, knowing her own actions had caused this distance. She looked down, feeling the weight of her regret. Veronica: "I understand. I just wanted you to know how I feel. I’ll respect whatever you need." Lyka nodded quietly, her expression still guarded. "Thanks for telling me. I hope we can find a way to move forward, but for now, I need some space." Veronica watched her go, feeling her heart sink. She realized that her actions had left scars, and though she hoped for forgiveness someday, she knew she had to be patient—if Lyka ever truly forgave her at all. Later that night, Veronica was at the café with her two friends. The soft hum of conversation filled the cozy café as Veronica sat with Krisha and Karina at a small table, steaming cups of coffee in front of them. Veronica looked thoughtful, her gaze distant as she stared into her drink. Krisha: "Veronica, I’ve been meaning to ask... do you think Lyka has forgiven you yet?" Veronica sighed softly, stirring her coffee absentmindedly. She hesitated before answering. Veronica: "Honestly, I don’t know. I want to believe she might someday, but right now, she’s still distant. I can tell she’s hurt—she’s not the same Lyka I used to know." Karina reached out and gently touched Veronica’s hand. Karina: "Do you still have feelings for her? Even after everything?" Veronica’s cheeks flushed slightly as she looked down, her voice quiet. Veronica: "Yes. More than ever. I realize now how much she means to me. I was so scared of losing her that I made things worse. I just... I want her to forgive me, but I also know I have to give her time." Krisha nodded understandingly, giving Veronica an encouraging smile. Krisha: "All you can do now is be patient and show her through your actions that you’re sincere. Forgiveness takes time, but if she sees how much you truly care, maybe she’ll find it in her heart to forgive you someday." Veronica looked up, a faint glimmer of hope in her eyes. She took a deep breath, feeling a mix of hope and sadness, knowing she had a long way to go but determined to do whatever it took to make things right. . . . . At Lyka’s Apartment Lyka was sitting on her sofa at her apartment when Jingboy knocked gently and stepped inside. He looked concerned as he took a seat across from her. Jingboy: "Lyka, I’ve been meaning to ask… do you think you’ve already forgiven Veronica?" Lyka hesitated, her eyes filled with a mix of pain and confusion. She looked away for a moment before answering honestly. Lyka: "Honestly, Jingboy, I’m still hurt. It’s going to take some time. I need space to heal. But... I still love Veronica. That part of me hasn’t changed." Jingboy nodded understandingly, then shifted the topic. Jingboy: "What about Mark? Are you still holding onto those feelings?" Lyka looked down, frowning slightly as she considered his question. Lyka: "I don’t really know. I’m still confused. Sometimes I think I should move on, but my feelings for both of them are complicated. I don’t want to get my hopes up, but I also can’t ignore what I feel." Jingboy placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. Jingboy: "Take your time. Don’t rush into anything. Healing and clarity come when you least expect it. Just remember, don’t let hope blind you — be honest with yourself." Lyka nodded softly, still lost in her thoughts, unsure of what the future held. As Lyka and Jingboy continued their conversation, there was a sudden knock on her door. Lyka hesitated for a moment, then got up and opened it. Standing there was her mother, with a warm smile and a bag of groceries in her hands. Lyka: "Mom!" Without hesitation, Lyka stepped forward and embraced her mother tightly. Lyka: "I missed you so much." Her mother gently patted her back, holding her close for a moment before stepping inside. Mother: "I thought I’d visit and see how you’re doing. I brought some food for us." They moved to the small dining table where her mother set down the bag. Inside, there was a variety of delicious-looking dishes. Lyka’s eyes brightened as she looked at the food. Lyka: "Thank you, Mom. This means a lot." Her mother smiled softly, sitting down across from her. Mother: "You don’t have to go through this alone, sweetheart. Remember, I’m always here for you." Lyka nodded, feeling a little comforted by her mother’s presence. As they started to eat, Lyka felt a small sense of peace amidst her confusion, grateful that her family was there to support her. As they enjoyed the food her mother brought, her mother glanced at Lyka with a gentle smile. Mother: "Lyka, have you thought about going back home sometime? Your father really misses you. He keeps asking when you’ll visit again." Lyka looked down for a moment, considering her mother’s words. She hesitated before replying. Lyka: "I’ve been thinking about it… but I’m not sure if I’m ready yet. Things are complicated here." Her mother reached across the table, taking Lyka’s hand softly. Mother: "You don’t have to worry about work or anything here. You can come home, rest, and take your time. Your father and I just want you to be happy and safe." Lyka looked into her mother’s caring eyes, feeling a mix of warmth and guilt. Lyka: "Thank you, Mom. I really appreciate everything. I miss home too, but I just need a little more time to sort my feelings out." Her mother squeezed her hand fondly. Mother: "Whenever you’re ready, we’ll be waiting with open arms. Just remember, your family loves you no matter what." Lyka nodded softly, feeling a bit more comforted by her mother’s words. She knew she had a lot to think about, but having her family’s support made the path a little easier. Her mother gently squeezed Lyka’s hand, then looked at her with a tender smile. Mother: "Lyka, you don’t need to worry about working right now. Your father was a respected man in politics, and he built a good life for us. You could continue his legacy if you want—step into his footsteps and serve your community." Lyka looked surprised, her eyes flickering with mixed feelings. Lyka: "I appreciate what you’re saying, Mom, but I want to be independent. I don’t want to rely on anyone. I want to find my own path." Her mother nodded understandingly, her expression both proud and thoughtful. Mother: "That’s very noble of you. I just want you to know that you have support, and you don’t have to carry everything on your own. But I also respect your desire to stand on your own. Whatever you choose, we’re here for you." Lyka took a deep breath, feeling a renewed sense of determination. Lyka: "Thank you, Mom. I’ll think about everything. For now, I just want to focus on healing and figuring out what’s best for me." Her mother smiled warmly, her eyes shining with pride. Mother: "That’s all I want for you, my daughter. Take your time—your future is yours to shape." They shared a comforting silence, the warmth of family surrounding them amid the quiet evening. They continued chatting about little things—the memories they shared, her mother’s stories from her youth, and Lyka’s dreams for the future. It was a precious moment, a bond strengthening between them. After a while, her mother glanced at her phone and her expression changed slightly. Mother: "Oh, I just received a message from your father. He says he’s been thinking about you and hopes you’re doing okay." Lyka nodded softly, feeling a warmth in her chest. Mother: "I should get going now. He’s probably waiting for me to join him. But remember, no matter what, we love you." Her mother stood up, giving Lyka a gentle hug. Mother: "Take care of yourself, my dear. We’ll talk again soon." With that, her mother turned to leave, her footsteps light as she headed toward the door. Lyka watched her go, feeling a mixture of comfort and longing, grateful for her mother’s love and support.
