Chapter 8:Unspoken Feelings

2425 Words
Weeks have passed since Veronica started subtly courting Lyka, now working together in a shared office space. Their daily interactions are filled with quiet gestures—Veronica often bringing small snacks or comforting notes, and their conversations growing more personal amid the hum of keyboards and papers. Lyka sits at her desk, immersed in work, feeling weary from the long hours. Veronica notices her fatigue and, without a word, quietly heads to the small kitchenette corner of the office. She returns with a warm cup of tea and a carefully wrapped snack, placing them gently on Lyka’s desk. Veronica: “You’ve been working so hard. You need to take a break and recharge.” Lyka looks up, surprised by Veronica’s thoughtful gesture. Her eyes soften as she accepts the tea, her heart warming at Veronica’s genuine care. She notices the small, caring smile Veronica always wears whenever she’s around. Over the following days, Veronica makes it a point to check on Lyka, bringing her favorite coffee or offering to help with her workload. She often stays a little longer after hours, sharing lighthearted stories or simply sitting beside Lyka in comfortable silence. One afternoon, Veronica finally gathers the courage to speak her feelings during a quiet moment when their work is done: Veronica: “You know, I’ve been trying to find the right time to say this. I care about you, Lyka. Not just as a colleague, but more than that. I want to take care of you… in every way I can.” Lyka’s cheeks flush as she processes Veronica’s words. She feels her defenses melting away, overwhelmed by the sincerity in Veronica’s voice. Lyka: “I… I’ve been feeling the same way. It’s different from anything I’ve experienced before. You make me feel safe and valued—like someone finally sees me for who I am.” Veronica reaches out and gently takes Lyka’s hand, her eyes full of warmth and hope. Veronica: “I want to be with you, Lyka. I want to make you happy, to support you. If you’re willing, I’d love to see where this can go.” Lyka looks into Veronica’s eyes, her heart pounding. She nods softly, a shy smile on her lips. Lyka: “Yes. I want that too.” As Lyka softly agrees, Veronica’s lips curl into a subtle smirk. Her eyes sparkle with a mixture of affection and something darker—calculated. She quickly masks her true intentions with a fake, gentle smile, but inside, a flicker of cold resolve ignites. Veronica: (smiling sweetly, voice smooth) “I’m glad you feel that way, Lyka. I’ve been waiting for you to see what’s truly in my heart.” But beneath her facade, Veronica’s mind races. She’s aware of Lyka’s vulnerability, how she’s fallen so deeply—just as Veronica predicted. Veronica’s past heartbreak with Teresa, who cheated on her with Lyka, now fuels her desire for retribution. In her mind: Veronica: They thought they could get away with hurting me… but now, I’ll make sure Lyka understands what it feels like to be betrayed, to suffer the pain I carried for so long. A cold, calculated plan begins to form. Veronica will use her newfound closeness with Lyka to manipulate her, ensuring that Lyka experiences the same heartbreak Veronica endured—only this time, she’ll be the one to suffer. Veronica’s smile remains fixed, but her eyes glint with a dangerous edge. She leans in slightly, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. Veronica: “I want us to be honest with each other. No secrets. Because I believe… we can have something real. And I want to make sure that when the time comes, you’ll feel what I felt when I was betrayed.” She gently squeezes Lyka’s hand, her touch tender but her mind plotting. She’s already thinking ahead—how to deepen Lyka’s trust, how to make her fall even more, and then, how to bring everything crashing down when the moment is right. Inside her mind: Veronica: Lyka’s fallen so hard. Soon, she’ll see that love can be just as cruel as betrayal. And when she does, I’ll be there… watching, waiting, and finally, making her feel what I felt when Teresa left me. She masks her dark thoughts behind her sweet smile, ready to play her part in the intricate game of love and revenge. Veronica’s Apartment – Night Veronica lounges comfortably on her sofa, a glass of wine in hand. Krisha and Karina sit nearby, both cozy with blankets, watching a Netflix movie. The room is filled with a relaxed, intimate vibe, but beneath that, Veronica’s mind is sharp and calculating. Suddenly, Krisha turns to Veronica, curiosity gleaming in her eyes. Krisha: “So, Veronica, I’ve been meaning to ask—how’s your plan with Lyka going? Do you think she’ll fall for it completely?” Veronica smirks, her eyes glinting with confidence as she takes a slow sip of her wine. Veronica: (proudly) “Oh, I know she’s fallen deeply. I can see it in her eyes—she’s already completely captivated. The way she looks at me, the way she trusts me now. I t’s only a matter of time before she’s fully wrapped around my finger.” Krisha and Karina exchange intrigued looks, waiting for Veronica to elaborate. Krisha: “And what’s your next move? How do you plan to make her suffer like you did?” Veronica leans back, a cold smile spreading across her face. Veronica: “I’ll get her exactly where I want her—completely vulnerable. I’ll keep her close, make her believe I care, and then… I’ll reveal the truth about Teresa and how Lyka betrayed me. It’ll break her, just as it broke me. She’ll feel what I felt when I found out Teresa cheated with her. That’s the real revenge.” Karina nods, impressed by Veronica’s ruthless plan. Karina: “You really are playing this perfectly. Lyka’s so blinded by love, she won’t see it coming.” Veronica chuckles softly, her voice filled with dark satisfaction. Veronica: Good. Let her fall deeper. The more she trusts me now, the harder she’ll fall when I finally pull the rug out from under her. That’s true revenge—making her suffer the way I did, and then some. She glances at her friends, her smile cold but confident. Veronica: “Soon, Lyka will realize that love can be just as cruel as betrayal. And I’ll be there, watching her break.” Veronica is relaxed, still seated on her sofa, her phone suddenly buzzes on the table. She glances at the screen—Lyka's name flashes brightly. A slow smile curves her lips as she quickly signals to Krisha and Karina to be quiet. Veronica: (softly, as she picks up the phone) “Hello, Lyka.” She moves slightly away from her friends, her tone warm and affectionate, masking the scheming mind behind it. Veronica: (sweetly) “Hi, love. I missed you.” Her friends exchange curious glances but stay silent, watching her intently. Lyka (on the phone): “I just wanted to hear your voice… Are you busy?” Veronica: (genuinely tender) “No, not at all. I’ve been thinking about you all day. How are you?” She listens, nodding softly, her fake smile growing even more convincing. Lyka: “I’m good… just missing you. I wish I could see you right now.” Veronica: (voice full of affection) “You will soon, I promise. I can't wait to be with you again.” She pauses, her eyes flickering with a mixture of love and something darker, then gently ends the call, slipping the phone back onto the table. As she turns back to her friends, Krisha whispers, impressed. Krisha: “You really are a good actress, Veronica. That sounded so genuine.” Veronica smirks, brushing her hair back confidently. Karina: (laughs nervously) “Yeah, but… I can’t help feeling a little worried too. You’re really going all in, huh?” Veronica’s smile remains, but her eyes flash with determination. Veronica: (calmly) “Worry? No need. Lyka’s fallen for me completely. She’s already mine in her heart. All I need now is to make her understand just how much she’s hurt me—and how much she’ll suffer when she finds out the truth.” Krisha nods, still a bit uneasy, while Karina looks on with a mix of admiration and concern. Veronica is seated at her desk, intently reviewing the latest metrics of her team’s performance on her computer. Charts and figures display the progress and targets they’re working towards. She’s focused, determined, her mind still partly on her plans with Lyka but maintaining her professional composure. Suddenly, her manager, Miss Kim, approaches her desk, a professional yet friendly expression on her face. Miss Kim: “Good morning, Veronica. Do you have a minute?” Veronica: (looking up) “Of course, Miss Kim. What’s up?” Miss Kim leans slightly, offering a reassuring smile. Miss Kim: “I wanted to let you know that there’s a team-building event scheduled for this weekend. It’s important for strengthening our collaboration and morale. I advise you to announce it to your team today, so everyone can prepare accordingly.” Veronica nods thoughtfully, her mind already calculating how this could serve her plans. Veronica: “Got it. I’ll make sure to inform everyone and remind them to be ready with whatever’s needed.” Miss Kim: “Great. Please emphasize that all necessary arrangements should be made ahead of time. We want this to run smoothly.” Veronica’s eyes flicker with a hint of a smirk, as she considers how to leverage this event for her benefit. Veronica: “Understood. I’ll handle it. Thanks for the heads-up, Miss Kim.” Miss Kim smiles warmly before heading back to her office, leaving Veronica to focus on her work once again. She leans back in her chair, a calculating look on her face as she begins drafting her message to the team, knowing she can use the upcoming event to her advantage. Veronica stands in front of her team, a confident smile on her face. She claps her hands softly to get everyone’s attention. Veronica: “Good morning, everyone! I have some exciting news. There will be a team-building activity this weekend. It’s a great opportunity for us to bond and strengthen our collaboration. Please prepare accordingly, and I’ll be sharing more details soon.” The team members cheer and exchange smiles, visibly excited about the event. Jingboy: “Oh, that sounds fun! I’m looking forward to it!” Mark: “Yeah, it’ll be a good break from our usual routine.” Veronica’s face shows satisfaction as she sees their enthusiasm. Among the crowd, Lyka’s face lights up with happiness; she’s clearly pleased. Lyka: (smiling brightly) “This is really good news. I’m excited!” But suddenly, Lyka’s expression shifts. Her eyes flicker with a hint of jealousy as she notices something else happening nearby. One of the team leaders, TL Celine, a friendly and warm person, approaches Veronica with a grin. Without warning, she gently wraps her arms around Veronica and gives her a quick, friendly kiss on her cheek. TL Celine: “Looking forward to seeing you at the event, Veronica. Thanks for organizing this.” Veronica blushes slightly, her face lightening up as she responds cheerfully. Veronica: “Thank you! I’m sure it’ll be a lot of fun.” The team around them chuckles and chats happily, but Lyka’s face tightens with a mixture of surprise and jealousy. She watches as Veronica and TL Celine share a moment that feels more personal than just friendly. Lyka (thinking to herself): Why does that bother me so much? Her eyes narrow slightly as she tries to hide her feelings, but her face reveals the flicker of envy and uncertainty. . . . Lyka and Veronica sit at the same table in the cafeteria, enjoying their lunch. Veronica notices that Lyka seems unusually quiet and distracted, her gaze distant. Veronica: (gently) “Lyka, are you okay? You seem a bit off today.” Lyka quickly forces a smile and replies, Lyka: “Yeah, I’m fine. Just a little tired, that’s all.” Veronica looks at her closely but decides not to press further. Just then, TL Celine approaches their table with a warm smile. TL Celine: “Veronica, just a heads-up—we have a meeting later. I’ll see you then.” Celine gives Veronica a friendly nod and steps away. Lyka watches her leave, but her face remains unreadable. Her eyes flicker with a mix of emotions—jealousy, frustration, confusion. Veronica notices the subtle change in Lyka’s expression and leans slightly closer. Veronica: (softly) “Lyka, are you jealous?” Lyka’s eyes widen for a moment, caught off guard by Veronica’s direct question. She quickly looks away, her cheeks tinged with a faint blush. Lyka: (stammering) “N-no, I’m not.” Veronica studies her for a moment, then offers a reassuring smile. Veronica: “It’s okay to feel that way sometimes. Just remember, I’m only yours.” Lyka nods quietly, still trying to hide her feelings, but inside, she’s battling a whirlwind of emotions she can’t quite put into words. Lyka tries to steady her racing thoughts, feeling overwhelmed by her emotions. She looks down at her hands, taking a deep breath to clear her mind. Veronica notices her hesitation and gently reaches out, placing her hand over Lyka's. Veronica: (softly) “Hey, Lyka, look at me.” Before Lyka can respond, Veronica leans in and softly kisses her on the lips. Lyka's eyes widen in surprise, her heart pounding. After a moment, Veronica pulls back slightly, gazing into Lyka’s eyes with sincerity. Veronica: “No need to be jealous. I don’t like Celine—I only like you.” Lyka’s cheeks flush a deep red, and she looks away for a moment, overwhelmed by the honesty and affection. Then, she squeezes Veronica’s hand gently and softly says: Lyka: “I know, but I see the way she looks at you.” Veronica smiles warmly and nods. Veronica: “Only you, Lyka. You’re the one I want to be with.” Lyka feels a wave of relief and happiness wash over her. She squeezes Veronica’s hand again, her heart now clear and her mind at ease, knowing that her feelings are mutual. They sit quietly for a moment, holding hands, surrounded by the bustling office environment but lost in their own world.
