Chapter 6

1041 Words

Helena's POV: Charlie lifted me into his arms, holding me like I was something fragile and precious. "Helena, hang in there! We're going to the hospital right now!" His voice came out raw and ragged, thick with uncontainable agony and crippling panic. I fought with every last bit of strength to pry my eyes open, desperate to get one last look at my Kyle. But my vision kept swimming, growing darker and blurrier by the second. All around me, I could hear my brothers' ragged, panicked breathing and their muffled, shaking sobs. The car engine roared to life, and we blazed down the road at breakneck speed. In the end, my consciousness slipped away completely, swallowed by total darkness. When I finally came to again, the first thing that hit me was the thick, acrid stench of disinfectant.
