Chapter 18 Dylan bent low and grabbed the handlebar of the metallic barrier tightly. The muscles in his hands ached. He heaved up, but it barely moved. It took more strength than he thought. He steadied himself, and then pulled it upward. Dylan found Tess on the other side. She took a startled step backward. Dylan ducked under the barrier and joined her on the other side, letting it crash down after him. The mall was near closing, so only a few shoppers walked by. It always got eerie this time of night. “We need to get out of here,” Dylan said. “What?” “Right now.” He grabbed her wrist and ran from the pawn shop. “What’s this about?” she asked, hurrying after him. He couldn’t tell if he hurt her wrist, but she hurried after just the same. “You’re not safe. There’s a murderer here,”
