Chapter 20
Dylan woke up in a hospital bed wearing a thin, white gown. He tried to move, but there was too much pain. He reached down at his side and felt a large bandage covering his wound.
It hurt to think. He tried remembering what had happened, but it was no good.
A nurse came into the room to check on him. He tried talking, but found his words slurring.
“Pain meds kicked in, I see,” the nurse said with a wan smile. “You rest up now.”
“But…” Dylan’s eyelids fluttered and he fell back asleep.

The next time Dylan came to was less pleasant. Detective Winston sat in the visitor’s chair, reading a newspaper.
“Oh, you’re up.” Winston folded the paper neatly and set it on a small bedside table.
“Detective Winston?” Dylan asked. “What’s going on?”
