A soft, hesitant knock vibrated through the door. Panic spike in my chest as I scrambled to my wobbly feet, frantically wiping the blood and tears from my face.
"C-come in," I called out, trying to force the tremors from my voice. "It's open."
The heavy lock clicked, and a guard's hand firmly pushed Toby into the room, slamming and locking the door immediately behind him. The moment Toby saw me, his eyes widened, and he sprinted across the space, throwing his small arms around my waist. The sheer momentum of his hug knocked us both back onto the soft bed.
A breathy, emotional giggle escaped my lips as I held him tight.
"I missed you so much, Fiona," Toby whispered, burying his face into my shoulder. He pulled back slightly, his eyes searching my face with intense worry. "Are you okay?”
