You'd Never Have Known Part 3

3074 Words
Waking up you reached over to grab your phone, according to the time you'd been asleep for almost ten hours, unfortunately you didn't feel refreshed you just felt lousy. Kind of like you needed a nap to recover from sleeping for so long. Hearing your stomach growl you decided it was time to get up. Using the little energy you had you stood up and walked towards the door, a cold chill made you shiver as you realized it was kind of chilly in the bunker. You were only wearing some soft shorts and a tank top, pulling on a big sweatshirt laying on a chair in the corner you felt better. Walking down the hall you realized it must be pretty late, most of the lights were off and the bunker was quiet. The boys must have been asleep, you could hear snoring coming from the direction of their rooms. Going into the kitchen you walked over and opened the fridge, glancing at its contents. Since you'd been gone for a week there wasn't much. There was some milk that hadn't gone bad yet, some eggs, a few condiments, and something that looked like part of a hamburger but smelled like it died. Tossing the burger in the trash you decided something simple like pancakes would be good. Checking the cabinet to make sure you still had syrup you also grabbed the flour and chocolate chips. Why not make yourself a treat? Pulling out a pan you set it on the stove and then began mixing everything up for the batter. When it was ready you put some butter into the pan and waited for it to melt before pouring in a few patches of the thick batter. As the bottom finished cooking you added your chocolate chips, dotting them here and there and even making a smiley face on one. You smiled to your self as you flipped them carefully. It was moments like this you loved, moments where you could just giggle and have fun, nothing pulling you down. As you flipped the last one a voice surprised you from the doorway, "Something smells good." You hadn't been expecting company so when you jumped the pancake slid off the spatula and onto the floor. "Aw man that was a smiley face one." Frowning you looked up, Dean stood in the doorway looking kind of guilty. He brought a hand up to rub the back of his neck, "Yeah, sorry I didn't mean to scare you." Shrugging you reached over for a paper towel and began cleaning up the mess, "It's fine, there's plenty more batter." Throwing everything in the trash can you looked over your shoulder at Dean as you began taking the remaining pancakes out of the pan, "Want some? I put chocolate chips in them but I can make some without if you don't want em." Deans face lit up, "No that sounds great, thanks." Putting them on a plate and grabbing the bottle of syrup you set everything down on the table while Dean grabbed a fork and sat down. You walked back to the stove, adding more butter and batter to the pan. Watching carefully so you didn't burn anything you turned to look at Dean. He took a bite and smiled at you, "These are great Y/N." Blushing you turned back around, "Thanks." After a minute yours were done, fixing yourself a plate you walked over to sit across from Dean. Pouring syrup over the golden circles you quickly dug in. A smile formed on your face as you tasted the butter and melted chocolate. Looking up you noticed Dean staring at you. You felt slightly awkward and cleared your throat, noticing Dean was wearing a t-shirt and sweats and his hair looked ruffled from sleep you decided to break the ice. "So, did I wake you up? If I did I'm really sorry." Keeping your eyes down you focused on the food in front of you. Dean swallowed the bite he had been chewing and shook his head, "No, actually I've been awake for a while." Looking up you tilted your head to the side in confusion, "Everything okay?" Dean looked up and stared into your eyes, "Yeah, I mean, not really but. Um, just a lot on my mind I guess." It was obvious Dean didn't want to talk about something that was bothering him, or at least not to you. Finishing your food you stood up, seeing Dean take his last bite you grabbed his empty plate too and made your way over to the sink. Turning on the faucet and setting the temperature you waited for the sink to fill as you gathered the dirty pan and bowl. As you washed the pan you turned to rinse it when a hand came up to take it from you, looking up Dean was standing right beside you, his arm brushing your shoulder. "You wash, I'll rinse and dry." Nodding you let go of the pan and began working on everything else. Soon everything was washed and put away. You drained the sink and began wiping off the counter where some batter had dripped from the edge of the bowl. The whole time you could feel Deans eyes on you. Looking around you decided the kitchen was clean enough and folded the rag, laying it across the middle of the sink. Turning around you were surprised to find Dean standing right behind you. Looking up into his face with confusion you noticed the pained look on his face. "Dean what's wrong?" Dean looked into your eyes then put his hands into his pockets, he had the look of a kid who had been caught doing something he shouldn't have. Looking down at his feet you had to strain to hear the words coming out of his mouth, "I overheard you and Sam talking earlier." You felt your entire body freeze, you were pretty damn sure your heart stopped too. Feeling the color drain from your face and the burning at the back of your eyes you stepped around Dean and towards the middle of the room. Your back to him you weren't sure what to say, you were humiliated. You never wanted Dean to know how weak and ridiculous you really were, and now he probably thought exactly that all because you whined to Sam about your problems. You never should have done that, you should have covered your tracks like you always do, never letting anyone know what was going on beneath the surface. A single tear fell from your eye and you quickly wiped it away, crossing your arms over your chest you took a deep breath. "Dean it's nothing, I was just whining to Sam. I'm a girl we tend to get carried away with our emotions. Just forget whatever it is you heard, I'm fine." The sound of soft footsteps made you realize Dean had turned around and was walking towards you, still you refused to look at him. You knew you probably had red eyes from trying not to cry and you didn't want him to see that. Before you could say anything Dean grabbed your shoulders and turned your body into his, wrapping his arms around you and holding you tight to his chest. Automatically your arms went to wrap around his back. The feeling of being held by him overwhelmed you. His scent filled your nose and you felt as though someone shot electricity throughout your body. Dean felt you tighten your arms around him and did the same. He kissed the top of your head and moved so that his mouth was by your ear. "Can I show you something?" the feel of his breath on your neck with each word made a shiver go down your spine. Not trusting your voice you simply nodded. When Dean let go of you and stepped back you suddenly felt cold. He looked into your eyes and gave you a small smile, taking your hand in his he led you back to his bedroom. Once inside he shut the door behind you and walked over to his nightstand. Opening the drawer he took out a small box and closed the drawer. Standing up he walked to the end of his bed and sat down, motioning for you to sit beside him. As you did, you noticed how he seemed almost nervous. Dean took your hand and placed the small box inside it, "I had it made for you. To remind you of all the good memories we've had and that Sam and I will always be here for you." Lifting the lid on the box your breath caught in your throat. Reaching in you pulled out a silver bracelet. There were multiple charms on it. A gun, a knife, a fish, a car that looked like the impala, what looked like a bag of flour, a tub of movie popcorn, and a few more. Each one brought back special memories, all of which made you smile. Holding up one that looked like a Ferris wheel you giggled, "You remembered the fair I begged you to take me to?" Dean smiled and took hold of the bracelet, opening the clasp he wrapped it around your wrist and fastened it. "Of course, you kept bringing it up for three days. I actually wanted to go from the start but figured I'd make you beg a little bit." At this you playfully hit his arm and fake pouted, "You jackass!" Laughing Dean laid his hand on yours and smiled, "But we had fun, I won you that stuffed mouse. And the Ferris wheel was the best part." Squeezing Deans hand with yours you looked down to stare at your entwined hands, that night flooding back into your mind. Dean did win you the mouse, after playing the game seven times. It was hilarious watching him get frustrated each time and you even offered to play and win it for him. That seemed to be the final blow to his already damaged manhood and he managed to win the next one. The look of triumph on his face as he handed the stuffed animal to you was priceless. Later that night you were almost ready to leave when Dean stopped you, "Hey lets go on the Ferris wheel." Shaking your head as you eyed the tall machine you took a step back, "No thanks I'm good, you go ahead though." Shaking his head and taking your hand in his he began leading you towards the line. Unfortunately for you there were only a few people in line so it was no time at all before you were being strapped into the wobbly cart. Putting the mouse beside you in the seat you gripped the bar tightly, the moment it began moving you squeezed your eyes shut. Dean looked around and grew excited, looking over he realized you looked terrified and would probably break the bar if you held onto it any tighter. "Hey, Y/N open your eyes." Shaking your head you tightened your grip on the bar, "Nope, I'm good." Chuckling Dean reached forward and carefully pried your hands free, pulling you into his side he wrapped one arm around you and held your hand with the other. You had melted into him and relaxed feeling his body heat. Holding you close Dean leaned forward and whispered in your ear, "Come on Y/N, I got you. Open your eyes, you don't want to miss this." Deciding to be a big girl you slowly opened your eyes. Of course the first thing you saw was the ground way down below. Your hand tightened on Deans and he laughed, bringing up your hand in his he pushed under your chin forcing you to look up. As soon as you did you gasped, hundreds of lights shown in the distance giving you a good view of the town. But it didn't compare to the millions above your heads. You'd never seen anything like it, you were too busy gazing at the sky to notice the wheel had stopped with you and Dean at the very top. Smiling you never took your eyes off the sky, "It's beautiful, I can't believe I almost missed it. Thank you Dean." Looking over you saw Dean smiling wide and looking at you, it was then you noticed just how close the two of you were. You swore Dean looked at your lips for a second before looking back into your eyes. Just as he began to lean in the wheel started up again. This caused the cart to sway and you to jump and wrap you arms around Dean and bury your face in his neck. He had been mad at first as a perfect opportunity was interrupted but the feel of you holding onto him made him happy just the same. After that you drove home talking excitedly about the fair and how much fun you both had. Thinking of that night made you smile as you fiddled with the charm on your bracelet. "I was terrified of heights, still am kind of. But that was one experience I would never give up, everything looked so beautiful up there." Feeling Dean bring up a hand to cup your face you looked up in surprise, "Including you." A moment like this is what you always dreamed about, Dean looking at you with love in his eyes. For a second you almost gave in, but then reality set in and you shook your head, standing up and taking a few steps away from him. Looking down and crossing your arms you fought against the insecurities trying to pull you under, you became awkward again and tried to remember that this was Dean. He was too good for you, he was just being nice. "Dean don't say things you don't mean. I know what I look like, and it damn sure ain't beautiful." You heard the bed creak as weight was lifted from it and footsteps come towards you. Dean reached out to turn you around to face him, pushing your face up to meet his he quickly closed the gap between the two of you and set his lips against yours. Instant warmth spread throughout your body, at first you weren't sure what to do but then your body seemed to take over. Your arms wound around his neck, pulling him closer. Dean gripped your waist and pulled you flush up against his hard body. The kiss was everything you imagined and more, it wasn't passionate and need filled, it was soft, and full of unspoken love. Eventually you both pulled away, breathless and desperate for air. Dean laid his forehead against yours, eyes still closed. "Listen to me Y/N, you are the most beautiful, wonderful woman I've ever met. Besides being a damn good hunter your a good person too. Your funny, smart, a great cook, your kind to everyone around you, and you work hard to make sure everyone else is taken care of. I love everything about you, from the funny faces you make at me in the rearview mirror to the way you twirl strands of your hair whenever your concentrating hard on something." You felt like your face was on fire, was he really saying this about you? Was it possible that Dean actually cared about you? Opening your eyes and leaning back you looked into his face. Nothing but love and understanding showed and you almost cried at the realization. Dean kissed your cheek and pulled you into a hug, his face buried in the crook of your neck. "I've always been too afraid to tell you how I felt because everyone I love gets hurt eventually. But after I heard what you told Sam I realized nothing is guaranteed for hunters. We can all bite it at any time, so what the hell was I waiting for? I've already wasted so much time and I can't stand the thought of you feeling the way you do. Your not alone, not anymore. I'm yours Y/N, and your mine. I'll be here for you through it all I promise." By now you couldn't stop the tears from falling, only now they were from happiness. Pulling back you looked up at Dean and brought both hands up to cup the sides of his face, "I love you Dean, I have for a long time. But you need to realize something before we do this. I'm not going to be fixed overnight, it's going to take time and I'm going to have my bad days. There are gonna be times I don't believe this is real or that I deserve someone as amazing as you. I just don't want that to ruin anything." Taking your hands from his face and kissing your knuckles Dean smiled, "Baby I'm all in, I know there are gonna be some rough times but I'll always be here for you. I want you to tell me whenever you feel it pulling you down, because I want to be the one who pulls you back up." If it was possible you actually smiled bigger, reaching up you smashed your lips against Deans. This was it, your dream actually came true. Dean loved you just as you loved him. Dean began peppering kisses all over your face making you laugh. Finally he saw you yawn even though you had only woken up a little while ago. Taking your hand he led you to the bed where you crawled under the covers, walking over to turn off the light he came back and crawled into the bed behind you. Wrapping his arm around your waist he pulled you back into his body, your head resting on his arm. He kissed the back of your neck and laid his head against the back of yours. Never had you felt more safe and loved, in that moment you knew, everything was going to be different. You also mentally thanked Sam, cause if you hadn't of spilled your secret to him, you'd never have known how Dean felt. A/N: I'd just like to say that no matter how bad things seem there is always a light at the end of that dark tunnel. Keep fighting through whatever tries to bring you down, your worth fighting for, always remember that!
