No Rest For The Wicked

Sam x Reader Reader struggles with nightmares It had been days since you got any sleep, usually as a hunter it was nothing really new. But this time was different, you were choosing not to sleep. Lately every time you did all you saw were horrible nightmares. Visions of lost loved ones and friends, the monsters you had killed, and worst of all memories from your time in Hell. Finally you couldn't take it anymore and decided it wasn't worth it. Now you had large dark circles under your eyes and your vision had been going in and out. The wear on your body was obvious but you refused to give in. Sam and Dean didn't seem to notice because you made sure to act as though everything was fine. Even if you were fighting hard to hold up your head you'd put everything you had into looking happy and normal whenever they were around. After finishing a few loads of laundry and watching some movies you tried to find something else to keep you awake. The guys had long since gone to bed and it was the middle of the night, the hardest time to stay alert. Deciding moving around was your best bet you stood from the couch and slowly began walking throughout the bunker. Once you came back into the main room you decided it was time for operation coffee pot. Going into the kitchen you pulled out the coffee and filters and began making a full pot, you knew you were going to need it. Just as it finished you pulled out the creamer from the fridge and grabbed the sugar container. Too focused on mixing up the cup of caffeine you never heard the footsteps coming down the hall outside the kitchen. "Y/N?" Jumping you dropped the spoon you were using to stir in the sugar and brought a hand up to your chest as you turned towards the door. "Dammit Sam! Warn a girl next time!" Bending down to retrieve your spoon you let out a giant yawn. Sam tilted his head to the side and watched as you threw the spoon in the sink and took a sip of your coffee. "Why aren't you sleeping?" You tried your best to give him your usual fake smile and energetic look but you were already running on fumes. The look you gave him must have been bad because his face scrunched up as he began walking towards you, "How long has it been since you actually slept?" You sat down at the kitchen table and laid you head in your hand, tracing the rim of your coffee mug with your other hand and avoiding his gaze. "I don't know, a while I guess." Sam frowned and sat down across from you. "How long is a while?" Sighing you looked up and into his puppy dog eyes, "Four days." Instantly the puppy eyes vanished to be replaced by disbelief and concern. "Why haven't you been sleeping?" he asked as he reached across the table to take your hand in his. Rubbing soothing circles into your skin he looked at you with so much concern that you wondered just how bad you looked. Taking your hand from his you placed them both in your lap and bowed your head, "I can't sleep, every time I do, the nightmares start up. I can't take it anymore Sam, the death, the screaming, the torture. I just can't handle going through it every night." Looking up you saw Sams lost puppy look, standing and coming around the table he knelt beside you and took your hands in his. "Why didn't you say anything? Baby you know I would understand, in this life we all get nightmares." You felt your eyes begin to moisten but refused to let the tears fall, "You guys have been working hard on trying to find Asmodeus and Jack. I didn't want to bother you." Sam frowned and stood up, lifting your body as he did. "Sam! Put me down! What are you doing?" Turning towards the door he began walking towards your shared bedroom. "We're going to bed, you need to sleep." Becoming scared you tried to jump out of his arms but he only tightened his hold. Walking into your room he laid you gently down on the bed. Before you could move he laid down beside you and pulled your body into his. The feeling of being wrapped in his arms like this instantly calmed you. "Go to sleep baby, I'm right here and I'm not going anywhere." Sam pressed a kiss to the top of your head and tucked your head into the crook of his neck. After going so long without sleep and now laying in the arms of the man you loved sharing his warmth you began to drift off. You embraced the overwhelming feeling of being safe and loved, kissing his neck you wrapped your arm across his stomach and snuggled in closer. "Goodnight, Sam. I love you." "I love you too Y/N."
