Dean x Reader
Angst + Fluff = all the feels!
After putting yourself in danger to save Dean a heated argument follows, leading to a confession that has painful consequences.
Storming into the bunker you let the door slam shut as you made your way down the stairs. Pulling your bag higher up your shoulder and huffing angrily you heard the door open again as you made it halfway across the war room.
"We're not done talking about this!"
Spinning around you shot Dean a glare, "Yes we are Dean! I saved your ass from becoming that werewolf's next meal but instead of thanking me you decide to give me hell about it, I'm done talking!" By now Dean had made it down the stairs and threw his bag on the nearest table. Anger radiated from his entire body and for a moment you wondered if he might explode.
"That's not the point damnit you shouldn't have done it! You literally threw yourself in it's path! If Sam hadn't shot it you'd be dead right now! How could you be so stupid!"
The sting of those words hit you like a slap in the face, tightening your grip on your bags strap you took two steps forward and continued to glare at him. "I wasn't being stupid Dean! I knew what I was doing when I got in the way, I couldn't imagine seeing you get hurt so I stepped in! It's what you do for the ones you love!"
It took a moment before your brain registered what you had said, eyes growing wide you took a step back. You'd been in love with Dean for a while now but had never been able to tell him, every time you tried you would always chicken out, scared of rejection.
Dean stood there, breathing hard with his eyes just as wide. Shaking his head he looked down at the ground, "Pick someone else."
At first you weren't sure you had heard right, "What?"
Looking up Deans eyes met yours for a moment before he turned around, his hand running across his mouth. Bending over to rest his hands on the back of a chair. "You can't love me Y/N, pick someone else, anyone else. There's nothing for you with me."
There it was, the whole reason you'd never said anything before, Dean Winchester was rejecting you. Feeling a tear fall you couldn't stand being there any longer, the pain becoming worse by the second. Turning around you quickly walked out and into the hallway towards your bedroom, ignoring Dean calling your name from behind.
Reaching your room and rushing inside you made sure to lock the door. Spinning around you threw your bag across the room, tears fell freely now and you couldn't hold back the sobs. Taking a few steps forward you fell onto your bed and curled up, letting it all out.
Dean stopped outside your room, he hadn't meant for what he said to sound so harsh. Reaching up to knock he froze as he realized he could hear you crying. His heart broke knowing he had caused your pain, taking a step back he turned and began walking to his own room. Dean loved you so much it scared him sometimes but he was right, there was nothing for you with him, nothing but pain and death.
Waking up a few hours later your throat felt sore and your eyelids were glued shut. Wiping away the fact you had cried yourself to sleep you sat up. Looking around the room everything felt different, even the air felt heavier. Thinking back to earlier you felt fresh tears well up but fought them back, determined not to cry anymore. Swinging your legs over the side of your bed you sat there a moment, your eye drawn to the discarded bag in the corner.
As much as you loved being with Sam and Dean you knew you couldn't stay, seeing Dean everyday would only hurt too much. You'd hunted solo before meeting them, you could do it again. Walking over to your desk you wrote a note letting them know you felt it was time to go back to hunting alone, that you'd always be there if they ever needed your help but this was for the best.
Putting more clothes and your few personal belongings in your bag you took one last look around the room before quietly opening your door. According to your phone it was around one thirty in the morning, both brothers should be asleep by now. Closing the door behind you and walking along the hall you sniffed quietly, trying to fight back the tears that continued to come forward.
Walking into the war room you took one last look around it as well, remembering everything that happened here, the good and the bad. Reaching the staircase you froze with your foot on the bottom step as a voice rang out behind you.
"Your leaving."
That voice, you'd recognize that deep smooth sound anywhere. Closing your eyes your grip on the railing tightened. Without turning around you sighed, "I can't stay, I'm not sorry for falling for you Dean. And I'll always do anything I can to protect you and Sam, but I can't handle fighting with you every time I do."
Not hearing a response you opened your eyes and turned around to meet Deans stare, sucking in a small breath you were surprised at the oldest Winchesters appearance. His eyes were red rimmed and his hair stood up in all directions from where he had obviously been running his hands through it constantly. Once again you felt a single tear slide down your face.
Dean noticed and took the few steps forward needed to close the distance between you both. Stopping just in front of you neither one said anything as you continued to read each others face. Deciding you couldn't take it anymore as you felt more tears begin to well up you began turning back towards the stairs, "Goodbye Dean, I'll see you around."
Before you could move a hand shot out and grabbed your hand, turning you back around and pulling you into his chest Dean surprised you once more by crushing his lips against yours. Instantly your bag dropped to the floor and both arms went around his neck as his wrapped tightly around your body, holding you close.
Pulling back a moment later, both breathing heavily, you opened your eyes to see Deans still closed, a pain filled expression over his face. Leaning his forehead against yours he let out a deep breath, "Don't leave us, don't leave me. I lied damnit, I didn't mean what I said earlier." Your eyes widened in shock as he leaned back, his bright green eyes boring into yours.
"I hate when you put yourself in danger, especially for me. I'll never be okay with it but I promise to understand. I'm a selfish bastard for this but I can't lose you, I love you Y/N. Everyone I love dies and I just, I never wanted to put you at risk. You deserve someone who can protect you, who can make you happy and give you everything you ever..."
Silencing him with another kiss you began running your fingers through the hair on the back of his neck, feeling him relax under your touch. Pulling back just enough so your noses still touched you smiled, "You make me happy Dean, you can protect me, hell I can protect myself." With this you leaned back to meet his gaze, "But when the day comes that something does happen I need you know I would never blame you, and I would sure as hell rather die knowing we spent what time we had together instead of fighting this. I'm all yours Dean."
The huge smile spreading across his face was contagious as you too felt one on yours. Kissing you roughly once more Dean bent forward and grabbed your legs, picking you up and wrapping both legs around him as he began walking towards the hallway. Giggling you couldn't help but hold onto him tighter, "Dean what are you doing?"
Peppering kisses along your neck you could feel his smile against your skin, "Making up for lost time."
