You Saved Me

1056 Words
Daniel was fighting for his life. He was on the run from a group of survivors from the community that he used to live with. He had killed the leader's son during a fight, and now they were after him for revenge, even though they'd said that he could leave unharmed. "I should've known they were lying! I never really trusted them in the first place!" Daniel said, mentally kicking himself. He was running as fast as he could, which wasn't very fast, considering he had an arrow in his leg. He fell, causing the arrow to be pushed further into his leg. "AHHHHHHH!" He screamed in agony. The group was quickly gaining on him, and since he'd just screamed, he'd alerted them to his position. Just as one of them came into view and took aim with his arrow, a different arrow flew through the air, and struck the man in the neck. He fell to the ground, gurgling and choking on his own blood. The last four men came running up to their friend and then turned and saw Daniel. They took aim with their various weapons, and began advancing on Daniel. One by one, they began to drop - arrows through their throats. As the last one fell, a woman jumped down from the tree to Daniel's left and walked to each body. She took her knife out of its sheath on her thigh, and killed the brain of each person; preventing them from turning later on. "Thank you, you saved my life!" Daniel said, grateful, as she walked back to him. "Why were they after you?" She asked. "Because our leader's son wrongfully accused me of stealing more rations, when it was I that caught him stealing. He challenged me to a fight to the death, and I won, so naturally I have t o be killed," Daniel said with a dramatic roll of his eyes and a shrug of his shoulders. He tried to get up, but when he went to put pressure down on his injured leg, it wouldn't support his weight and he fell to the ground with a pained groan. "Best you keep off that leg as much as possible. I have a group with a doctor. I'll take you to them." The woman said. Without giving Daniel a chance to question nor argue, she helped him up, placed his arm over her shoulders, and began guiding him back to her community. "How do you know I can be trusted?" Daniel questioned. "Are you saying I can't?" The woman stopped in her tracks and looked straight at Daniel. "No, but I'm surprised you're not more skeptical." "I see it this way. The people hunting you have been wreaking havoc on my community for months now, and the fact that they were after you ....the enemy of my enemy is my friend," the woman said with a shrug. Daniel simply nodded. 30 minutes later, they got to a rundown school. This was where the woman's community was based. "Jordan, open the gate!" A man appeared, his gun aimed. But after seeing who was calling out to him, he opened the school gate, and let the woman and Daniel in. After a long argument between the leader and the woman, Daniel was allowed to stay on a probationary period. A year later.... Daniel and the woman who'd saved his life, whom he quickly found went by Scarlett because of always coming back from any trip outside the walls, became really close. In fact they were an unofficial, official couple. One day, while out on a run, Scarlett got backed into a corner by another group trying to raid the same store they were in. She was fighting with all she had in her, but there were too many of them. She was struck in the head and went down. The group pounced. "Scarlett!" Daniel screamed and fought his way through the group, killing everyone, not really knowing what he was doing, because all he saw was red. After the last one fell dead, he scooped Scarlett into his arms. He carried her back to the school. The doctor tended to her, and said she'd be sore, and needed to take it easy for a while, but she'd make a full recovery. Daniel stayed by her side until she woke up and then took care of her every need. A month later.... Daniel and Scarlett had just gotten back from a hunting trip, and were now walking alongside the lake a couple of miles away from the school. The sun was setting, the waves made just enough noise that it was soothing, and for once, everything was calm. The pair walked along the shore hand in hand. Daniel stopped. "What's wrong," Scarlett asked worriedly after seeing the frown on Daniel's face. "Nothings wrong per say, I just don't know how to say what I want to say." "Then just say it. It doesn't have to be perfectly planned out if it's coming from your heart." Daniel looked at Scarlett deeply. "Scarlett, you have been by my side from the first day I met you. You've always had my back, even when I was wrong. You are a strong, beautiful, brave, and wonderful woman, and I love you so much. You never back down from anything even if it looks like the odds are stacked against us, and you inspire me to keep pushing forwards. You are my best friend. You save my life in more ways than one every single day, and I am beyond grateful." Daniel then gets down on one knee and pulls out a beautiful yet simple infinity ring. "Will you make me the happiest man in the world, and continue to fight by my side, on;y now as my wife? Will you marry me?" Scarlett, who'd been quietly crying, nodded and choked out a "Yes." Daniel stood up, placed the ring on her finger, then wrapped his arms around her, and kissed her slowly and deeply - pouring all his love for her into that kiss. Scarlett wrapped her arms around his neck, and returned his kiss. Pouring the same amount of love into it. They vowed to always fight by each other's side to the day they died, and that is exactly what they did. Finished
