Chapter 1

1058 Words
Jaune couldn’t stop smiling as she listened to the story her twin sister, Destine, was telling. Destine had just arrived home from the university she attended. Jaune was absolutely thrilled to be with her gorgeous twin again. Destine truly was beautiful. Her straight golden hair shone in the light. Her eyes were a deep blue, and her perfectly shaped lips complemented her sharp nose. Her skin was fair and smooth like porcelain. She was tall and slender—just one white dress, a pair of wings, and a halo away from looking like a real angel. Jaune admired her not only because of her beauty but also because of her kindness. Even though they were twins, they didn’t look alike at all. In fact, they were total opposites. Destine's hair was sleek and straight, while Jaune’s was curly and messy, like dark chocolate. Her eyes were a bright, almost blinding shade of blue—so bright, in fact, that some people found it unsettling, saying it looked like she was possessed. She wasn’t dark-skinned, but compared to Destine, they were like coffee and milk. Jaune wasn’t as tall or slender either. She stood shorter than her sister. Still, no matter how different she looked, Destine always saw her as her twin and nothing less. They had been inseparable since birth and were extremely close. People often wondered why they looked nothing alike despite being twins. But not all twins are identical—there are fraternal twins too. Still, others thought the differences between them were too extreme. Some even spread rumors, saying maybe their mother had an affair and both girls were conceived at the same time. There were always stories about their family. But they ignored the gossip—they were happy, and that was enough. They always went to the same school—until now. College had finally separated them. Destine pursued her dream of becoming a doctor and enrolled in a medical university, while Jaune chose to stay in their hometown and study there. Their differences weren’t just physical—they were opposites in personality too. Destine was gentle and graceful, while Jaune was loud and brash. Destine was kind; Jaune was mischievous. People often wondered how they could be so close despite being so different. Jaune didn’t know which of them was born first—probably Destine. She admired her deeply, almost like a big sister, and often wished she could be like her, even if she knew she couldn’t. She also knew her sister well. Destine loved creating stories. She was fond of fantasy, magic, and mysterious tales—stories of princes and princesses, monsters and fairies. That’s why Jaune always got excited whenever Destine came home from school. There would always be a new story to hear. Sometimes, Destine would even say the stories came to her in a dream. And Jaune was her only audience—something she didn’t mind at all. She loved the magical worlds her sister spun from her imagination. The latest story was about a world called Andalania—a place full of wonder, mystery, and the supernatural. It was a world where all kinds of creatures lived—monsters, magical beings, and even mythical creatures from books. It was a land of kingdoms, chaos, conflict, and long journeys. In that world, a girl just like them suddenly appeared—an outsider from another world. She was said to be the prophesied savior, destined to defeat a wicked king. The girl went through countless hardships alongside new friends and fantastical beings until they finally defeated the evil ruler. Peace returned to Andalania. It sounded like a typical fantasy movie, but Jaune still loved listening to every word. “Did the heroine stay in Andalania?” Jaune asked cheerfully once the story ended. Destine gave a shy smile and shook her head. “No, Jaune. She had to go back to her own world. She’s hoping that someday, she’ll return.” “To see her beloved Prince Andalus again?” Jaune asked with a grin. She had gotten attached to the love story between the prince and the heroine—it was her favorite part of each tale. Destine didn’t respond right away. Her cheeks flushed a little as she gave a small nod. Jaune sighed contentedly and flopped back on the bed. “Wow, Destine, that was such a beautiful story. It felt so real. I really wish the heroine and the prince ended up together… but I understand why she had to go back. Her family’s waiting for her.” Destine nodded silently. Jaune turned to her. “What about you, Destine?” she asked. “If you were the heroine, what would you do? Would you go back to your world or stay in Andalania with the man you love?” Destine didn’t answer immediately. She only stared at her twin, who was looking at her with awe. “I don’t know, Jaune,” she finally said. “I understand the heroine. It’s not easy… She can’t just abandon her family like that, right?” “Yeah… but it’s sad, too. Because now she won’t see the man she loves again. What if she does return to Andalania one day—only to find out the prince is already married?” Destine’s eyes widened. “I hope not,” she blurted. “If he really loved her, he wouldn’t just replace her so easily… right?” “But what if the prince thought she’d never come back? Then he’d be holding on to nothing,” Jaune replied, watching her sister closely—only to be stunned by the look on Destine’s face. There was pain in her expression. Her eyes filled with tears. “Destine?” Jaune said, startled. A tear rolled down Destine’s cheek. “I… I’ll leave you for now, Jaune.” She stood up quickly and walked out of the room. Jaune sat up and stared after her, confused. Why was Destine crying? All she did was talk about the story. Maybe her sister had just gotten too carried away by the emotions of her tale—so much so that she felt the pain of the heroine herself. Jaune scratched her cheek, still puzzled by Destine’s reaction. She just hoped her sister wasn’t angry at her because of what she said.
