I was appalled when I saw my sister's tear-strickened face. Her usual fierce and intimidating look was gone.
All I can see now is a woman whose heart seemed to be torn into pieces and has no idea where she would start.
Amaris also noticed her when I pulled out a chair on her table. I was thankful when a waiter cleaned the table Amira was in.
"Anong nangyare?" Amaris exclaimed and I shook my head before I gestured at the pregnancy kit our sister was holding. She gasped in shock and I know deep down, she wanted to ask but refrained herself.
"Hey, sis. Andito lang kami. " I said caressing her hands. I rubbed her clenched fists in an attempt to soothe them and luckily, after a couple of minutes, she loosened up.
Still crying and oblivious to everyone passing by us at the fastfood, she buried her face in her hands and let out her anger.
"This child is a mistake!" Amira exclaimed which got my eyes wider. She was about to hurt her tummy when I got it from her.
"Stop! Stop it, sis! Walang kasalanan ang bata!" I said and tried to meet her eyes.
"Look at me, Mira." It was now Amaris' turn to talk and catch her attention. "I said, look at me!"
Amira sniffed and looked at her, her eyes swollen from crying.
"Whatever happens, andito kami ni Amara para alagaan at tulungan ka. You do not need to blame your child. Hinding-hindi ka namin iiwan." Amaris said softly.
"Hindi ko na alam ang gagawin ko!" Amira wailed and I hugged her while she wept. "Na-nangako ako sa inyo.. S-sa sarili ko na aahon tayo sa kahirapan. N-na hindi tayo magpapabaya.. p-pero ano itong ginawa k-ko?"
"Sssh, sis." I cooed and rubbed her back. "Andito lang kami. Malalampasan mo din yan. Malalampasan natin to."
"Pwe-pwede ba tayong u-umuwi?" Amira asked, her voice broken and exhausted.
"Oo naman!" Amaris said and took care of the foods in front of us. "Pero kumain ka muna."
"Wa-wala akong gana." Amira said in a small voice.
"Amira. Sabi mo nga, may anak ka na. You need all the energy you can get. Come on, eat up." Amaris said in her firm tone.
I smiled at her and thanked her silently. We know that whenever she uses that strict voice, pareho kaming napapasunod ni Amira.
Amaris has this domineering and firm voice that will indeed make you follow her orders. She was a natural-born leader.
Soon, we found ourselves eating our spaghetti and french fries. No one dared to talk and the only sound that we can hear are the occasional conversations and laughter of people around us.
When we notice that Amira has finished with her food, we also did too. Both Amaris and I exchanged glances and she broke the silence.
"Shall we go home now?" Amaris said and Amira nodded.
With that said, Amaris grabbed our paperbags and I helped Amira up. She clung to my arms while I fixed her first before we stood up.
Amaris had already booked us a taxi and as soon as we hit the exit of the mall, it was already waiting for us. She took the front seat while I was seated at the back with Amira.
The ride home only took us thirty minutes and as soon as we reached it, Amira was knocked out in her bedroom.
I sighed after removing her shoes. Amira was too weak to move. She was too down when her boyfriend rejected her when she found out about their baby.
I became furious and I wanted to yell at him but as I looked at my sister, I knew she needed us more than wasting our energy on that jerk.
We are not supporting her being impregnated before she actually graduate but because she has no one to turn to. And we are her only family.
At this moment, what she needs is understanding, patience and support from her family. Lessons and realizations should come in as she matures.
I'm just glad that Amira was able to open up to us about it. I am not sure what will happen if we heard it from somebody else.
