Chapter Ten

787 Words
Days passed and I tried my hardest to talk to Jacob but failed because he has practice almost everyday. According to one of the Varsity members, which I heard in the cafeteria, they are making up for the missed trainings because there was shortage of trainers when one of the Assistant Coach's children was confined and had to stay for a week. "Hey, Amara! It's been so long since we went out to the mall, pwede ka ba mamaya?" Came Alexa's voice in front of me. Duchess was absent today because her brother was sent to the hospital the other day. She said she has to stay for a while because her mom has to fix something for their hospital bills. I was staring unconsciously on my spaghetti and I didn't realized I have been twirling it for a long time. "Uh, yeah, sure." I said absentmindedly. "Oks ka lang ba, Amara? Tulala ka ata." Alexa commented as she chewed on her food. "Yeah. Wala lang gana, siguro." I said , my eyes still focused on the spaghetti in front of me. "Quit it. Nagsasayang ka ng pagkain. At least, have two to three bites on it before you let that pasta be spoilt." I sighed and did what she said. I twirled it again and cut it before I brought it to my mouth. Good thing the food was still tasty despite being cold for almost ten minutes. "Ano ba kasi problema mo, Amara? Care to share?" Alexa tried to ask again. Hindi ko alam kung dapat pa bang sabihin kay Jacob ang pag-iwas ko or wag na akong mag-abala! I sighed again and brought the pasta into my mouth and chewed it with my eyes closed. "Ah, oo, Lex. Wag mo muna siguro ako tanungin." Alexa mocked by answering her own question. My eyes flew open and found her rolling her eyes. Suddenly, I felt guilty. "Sorry, Lex. Madami lang iniisip." I apologized earnestly and she just glared at me and smiled. "Mukha nga. Oks lang. Ganyan din ako pag umiiwas sa usapan. Kung ano man iyan, alam ko malalampasan mo din yan." Alexa said to me reassuringly. My guilt has grown more knowing Alexa has long been crushing on Jacob. Am I betraying her by hanging out with him? But, we are just friends! Only friends.. Right, that's all there is to it. "Thanks, Lex." I tried to hide my concern by smiling at her. This friendship was starting to feel like torture. I know I am growing feelings for Jacob but I have other things to consider before him. Me and Alexa's friendship. And, my sister, Amira's request last time we talked in my room. Luckily, the bell rang, dismissing our thoughts. Loud noise was immediately diminished inside the cafeteria as students scurried to their classes. Thankfully, our class today is only half day. Alexa bid me a goodbye before she went out to her dad's office. According to her, her dad has been training her as the heiress of their family business. I was left alone and I headed to the main library to start my duty today. I politely greeted Miss Lomibao and she returned it with a smile. I began my duty silently while pacing through the shelves of books every now and then. I also assisted the students who occasionally borrow books and have them encoded in the system. Time flew by fast and I bid goodbye to Miss Lomibao. I glanced at the clock and saw that it's still early. Four o'clock. I am still not in the mood to go home so I wandered off the school grounds. It's still quite bright outside although it's starting to get dark. I clung to the straps of my bag and decided to walk home instead of riding my usual transportation, which is jeepney. The good thing about our house is it is not too far from the school. Anytime I felt tired, a jeepney will always pause to drop and take passengers in. So, for this day, a walk will do me good. At least, I thought it would. Not until, a strong arm and familiar scent came up from behind me and pulling me towards him. Our eyes met and I saw longing in them. "God, I miss you so much, Amara." Jacob's words sounded so sweet to my ears. I pulled my arm back and stepped away from him. "What's wrong? What did I do wrong?" Jacob asked in confusion and sadness was evident in his voice. I shook my head. "Just don't talk to me. Ever again." I said before I hailed for a jeepney. I rode on it and left him there, baffled and alone.
