Chapter 5: For Alpha's Sake

“Sam, I think I need to go home now. It's late, and grandmother must be back home. If she's home, and I'm not there, she'll feel uneasy”.

“I don't want her to get apprehended by the situation. So please let me go now”. Alexa pleaded.

“Alright then, please go with these clothes as yours are yet to be dried. It's my sister's clothes. They've been here for years. You can keep them, please.

Come on, I'll walk you down ".

We both went downstairs.

“You think whatever happened is my fault, right? I accept it, but just so you know, I only gave you thoughtful consideration. I didn't force you into making any decisions”. She retorted.

She exhaled and went closer to him.

“Please don't reason like this. "You promised that if we left our pack and came over here, you would not say anything about the past.

She said, folding her arms.

“You gave me your word that you were going to bury everything and move on. So what has changed now?

“I'm not going to go on with this anymore. I'm ready to take up Alexa's responsibility if not for anything, for our son's sake.

For Alpha's sake, let's forget this. She shrugged.

“Mom, Alexa wants to go home now".

His mom came over to where I stood, held me, then gave a warm hug.

“My dear, when you get home let your grandmother know that in a few months, I'll be sending you away to further your studies where you can learn quickly, then return to us”.

“You're your son's better half. Sam is an Alpha, and he needs you, my dear. She said with both hands placed on my shoulders.

“You won't understand this now. That's why I've made arrangements for you to travel and learn new things for a change. But it's sad as neither Sam nor your grandma will be coming along. You have to go there and grow".

She said as she walked me back home, holding us by our hands side by side.

Things took a turn for me as I found a new family and did my best to make adjustments. At first, Grandmother was scared and adamant about letting me go, but after much persuasion, she gave in. I got a beautiful opportunity to explore the world, broadening my horizons as I was soaked up in knowledge, expanding my intellectual boundaries. Bearing in mind, I'm the Alpha's choice.

“It's been a decade and four years... Hence, so much has changed. Alexa has transformed profoundly and almost imperceptibly. Her beauty glows more than just skin-deep, her glowing beauty outshines the stars. There was no form of imperfection as her physique was every man's dream.

“I hope your wild wolves are ready. I don't want her to get here alive; otherwise, she'll take my son away from me just as they took his father. Olivia said her voice was low, as though she was whispering on a phone call.

“I know so much has happened in the past few years, but I feel this is the best decision. "It's either she dies or the Alpha dies”.

Olivia said as she instructed a group of wild werewolves to attack Alexa on the way while she returned home.

“Mom, what's going on? Are you making preparations for Alexa's return? Sam asked as he was curious to see so many girls waiting outside their house.

“No, my dear. You're 26 years old now, and it's been a decade and four years already.

“You're not growing young. "As an alpha, you need a mate”. Remember what you promised your dad before he breathed his last. I need you to just hold each of these ladies’ hands. I'll be the one to decide if there's any form of connection.

“Mom, just stop all this. He yelled as he shrugged off his hands.

“No, never. I've waited long enough for Alexa, and I'm in love with her. I'd rather run away than get another mate.

“He yelled, his voice laced with anger as he stormed out of the house.

“Sam.... Sam...

“You're walking out on your mother. You must have grown bold overnight. She snarled, pacing around the room.

“You'll be lucky if you find her alive; otherwise, I know you will still reject her once you find out she's worse than a rogue wolf. She's human, and you can't have a human as a mate. Your Dad specifically made you promise him you would never mate with a human, and that's on me”. She smirked, wearing a devilish smile.

“Finally my love is back, I'll go get her back home”.

Just as he was about to get into the car and shut the door, a force held the door, preventing it from shutting.

“Hey, hey Man… come on, what's up with the rush?”. A calm voice interrupted.

“Whoa.. Reagan, it's you. He stepped out, beaming with a smile, and gave him a tight hug.

“Come on, cousin, where have you been all this time?”

“After Dad's death, I wished to see you more often, but you never visited the pack even once”.

“Hmm,” he let out a sigh of relief.

“I guess you've got a lot of complaints about me. How about we go in and talk or are you?

“Oh no.. "I'm sorry, bro, I can't join you just yet”. He quickly chipped in.

“I've got an important task at hand, but go in, Mother is home. I'll join you soon”.

He said as he got into the car and zoomed off.

Olivia had instructed Alexa which route to go through so she would fall into her trap and die.

Luckily, Alexa had messaged Sam about where to get her, and he drove away to go get her.

He arrived at the location, got out of his car, and started looking around for his mate, but then he got a tap from behind and when he turned to see, the glowing beauty radiating from Alexa skin to her pretty face made his jaw drop, and he stood still recollecting all their childhood memories as Alexa hugged him.

“Hey, Sam, never thought you would be so handsome. I mean, look how dashing you look”.

“Same with you, my love, had you not sent me a photo of you, I would have searched the whole place for someone else”. Sam teased and they both giggled.

“Come on, Sam, let's go home. Mom had sent me a route that would take us home safely. I've missed home so much”. They got into the car and drove off.

“Hey Sam, how's my grandmother? I kept telling Mom I wanted to come home sooner, but she just kept refusing me. She smirked.

“Hey, why does it matter? At least you're back now. I'm sure she just didn't want you to come trouble her. After all, that's what you're best at. He said sarcastically.

“Hey, you! She yelled, throwing soft punches at him.

While they drove down the route, suddenly he heard the howling sound of a wild wolf.

“Alexa, look over there, we've been surrounded by wolves.

Suddenly, darkness covered the whole place.

Just then, one of the wild wolves opened the car door and dragged her out.

“Hey, let go of me.” Sam, please help me..... I cried out as I struggled to free myself from the wild wolf.

Sam got so furious and transformed into a fierce Alpha Wolf. And struck the wild wolf that grabbed me, and with just one strike, he was dead.

Then he gave them the Alpha growl.

Howling aggressively, which alone made the other wolves flee the scene. Immediately, he rushed over to the bare ground where I sat.

“Alexa.. Are you OK sweetie? Sam asked as he carried me in his arms to the car.

“Let's go home now”. I whispered.

He entered the car, inserted the key, and turned, but it refused to respond. The car refused to start. He got out and opened the bonnet.

“All is fine here, but what could be the issue?

“Wait.. What the heck! These bastards had ripped off the air from the four tires. “This is bad because we're in the middle of the Goddess knows where”.

He breathed out shakily, trying to calm himself.

“Hey calm down.. Come on, let's go down the valley. Good thing I'm with my pup tent”.

“We won't get any lift, but we can make a shelter for ourselves, right?

I turned to look at him, but he came close, raising my chin. He gave a stern gaze.

“I hope you know what you're inviting”. His voice was low yet demanding.
