Chapter 16Jesse lay on his side, his arms wrapped around his own body, his gaze locked on the wall. He was afraid to close his eyes. They were bone dry and they ached, like he couldn’t cry even if he wanted to. It was better to remember. It was better to have Michelle out of his head. Even if now he had to live with the taste of Emma’s mouth and the color of her shirt and the shape of her smile and the knowledge that she was never going to get that promotion she deserved more than anybody.
