Damon’s POV
Pain.
That was the first thing I registered as consciousness came back into me. White hot agony across my chest where Seraphina’s blast had struck. My body felt like it had been torn apart and stitched back together like some botched patient. Silver poisoning mixed with whatever dark ancient magic that b***h had used.
But none of that mattered.
The only thing that cut through the haze was her scent.
Sophie's scent.
My stepsister, my fated mate, my everything.
I forced my eyes open. She was kneeling over me, completely naked, golden energy crackling around her like lightning. Tears rolled down her beautiful face as she pressed her hands to the massive wound on my chest. trying to stop the bleeding. Her eyes the color of hazel, now spotted with glowing gold, were filled with terror and determination.
“Damon, please stay with me,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “I can’t do this without you.”
Even half-dead, my c**k twitched at the sound of her voice. Don't ask me why. The drugs Victor had pumped into me were still inside of my system, mixing with the mating bond and her heat. I could smell myself on her, my c*m still leaking from her swollen p***y, marking her as thoroughly bred.
Marking her as mine.
I reached up with a bloody hand and cupped her face, my thumb brushing her trembling lip. “Not.. going anywhere, little sister,” I rasped, forcing a smirk even as blood trickled from the corner of my mouth. “Not when you’re carrying my pup.”
Her heart seemed to skip a beat. She leaned down and kissed me, putting a lot of passion into it. The taste of her tears mixed with the sweetness of her mouth. My other hand slid down her body and cupped her ass. Then I pulled her closer despite the pain. Even now, with death trying to take me, I wanted to make love to her again.
The sounds of battle raged around us, Victor’s wolves fighting Seraphina’s shadow spirits. The mountain itself groaned like it was alive and furious.
Seraphina’s voice echoed through the chamber, cold and furious. “The boy is dying. Step aside, daughter. Let me take what belongs to me.”
Sophie didn't step aside. She was still planted firmly in Seraphina's path. “He’s mine,” she snarled, the sound so Alpha-like it made my wolf preen with pride even as I lay there bleeding out.
I tried to sit up, but my body betrayed me. The wound wasn’t healing.
Whatever Seraphina hit me with was suppressing my ability to heal.
“Sophie..” I growled, gripping her thigh hard enough that it might put a bruise on her. “If I don’t make it, you run. Take our pup and run far from here. Don’t let them use you.”
“Shut up,” she snapped, tears falling onto my chest. “You’re not dying. I won’t let you.”
She pressed both hands over my wound. Golden energy flowed from her into me. It burned like liquid fire, but I felt my flesh starting to knit together slowly. The pain eased just enough for me to move.
I pulled her down on top of me, her soft, curvy body covering mine. My c**k, still painfully hard, slid between her thighs, rubbing against her slick, c*m-filled p***y.
“Need you,” I said against her neck. “One more time. Just in case.”
Even in the middle of hell all around us, she moaned and rocked against me. The mating bond was too strong, her heat too demanding. She reached between us, lined me up, and sank down onto my c**k with a cry.
“Fuck.. yes,” I hissed, thrusting up into her tight , wet, hot p***y. She rode me, golden energy flowing between us with every bounce of her perfect t**s. Her p***y clenched around me like a vice, milking me as fresh slick mixed with my previous loads.
I gripped her hips and f****d up into her harder, knot already swelling. “That’s my good girl. Take your stepbrother’s c**k. Let me fill you again while our enemies watch.”
She came hard, screaming my name, her walls fluttering wildly. The sensation dragged me over the edge. I knotted her deep, roaring as I pumped more c*m into her already overflowing womb.
For a moment, everything felt right.
Then Victor’s voice cut through the hullabaloo like a sword of Damocles.
“Enough of this disgusting display!”
A silver dart flew through the air and punched itself into Sophie’s shoulder. She cried out, collapsing forward onto my chest as the toxin spread through her.
“No!” I shouted, trying to hold her up. My knot was still locked deep inside her, trapping us together as her body went limp.
Victor stepped closer, his strongest enforcers at his sides. Seraphina hovered behind him, her form flickering with rage.
“You’ve both served your purpose,” Victor said coldly. “The child will be extracted and raised under my control. As for you two..” He smiled. “The prophecy requires a blood sacrifice from both bloodlines.”
He raised a glowing silver blade.
I strained against my fading strength, trying to shield Sophie with my body while still knotted inside her. Her breathing was growing shallow against my neck.
The mountain shook again, Cracks flew across the ceiling like spiderwebs as the ancient presence woke up.
Seraphina screamed in triumph. “The Heart awakens! The vessel is ready!”
Victor lunged with the blade aimed straight at Sophie’s unprotected back.
I threw every last ounce of strength into one final shift, my black wolf bursting outwards with my knot still buried inside her, an impossible, painful merge of forms that made Sophie scream in agony and pleasure.
The blade struck my shoulder instead of hers.
But as blood poured from the new wound, I realized the silver was poisoned with something far worse than normal.
My vision started to fade.
And the last thing I saw was Sophie’s eyes flying open, glazing over with something uncontrollable as she looked up at Victor and Seraphina with pure murder in her eyes.
Then everything went black.
