After a few weeks, David's wound healed. And after a few more days he began to feel better. "Hey you! How ya feelin?" Asked Sam, meeting him outside his bedroom door. "Much better thank you..." He paused a moment, then continued. "I really should look for my regiment." The bright smile on her face faded. "Do you really have to go?" She asked, whimpering a little. He nodded. "I'm sorry Sam, but yes. Don't want to be taken for a deserter. Or, worse, killed in action." She looked at him with a soft expression. "Alright then. I'll show you where to go tomorrow. We'll go to the courthouse and get you back in action." Having been out for so long made him think of being home. But he knew he had to go back. He felt it was his duty. The next day, David and Sam went to the court house. Before he went inside, she kissed him. "You came back to me ya hear?" David smiled and caressed her cheek. "No worries love." He whispered. He then proceeded inside the building. He waited in line for a few minutes. And, when it was his turn, he stepped forward. "State yer name." Stated a soldier, sitting at the table "David Grear." The man looked up. "Did you say David Grear?!" "Yes sir." The man smiled. "Well, holy hell! I thought you were dead!" "Alex?!" "Yep! It's me brother!" David swung out his arms and gave Alex a huge hug. "How the hell are ya?! And where ya been?!" "Its a long story, but I'm here and ready to serve." "Well, sign your name, brother!" David obligated and signed his name on the paper. Then joined the ranks. Lucky for him, he was in Union terror. He took a last look at Sam when the soldier was ready to leave. "I love you." He lipped, looking at her lovingly. She blew him a kiss with tears streaming down her rosy cheeks. "I love you too, David Grear. Please God, let him come back to me safely." She whispered to herself.
