She sat down on the bench, reconsidering her decision for the hundredth time, not knowing what to do. It's been the same for the past week for Rebecca, walking into the park, sitting alone, thinking of all the possibilities with one answer and then going back home with a mind filled with millions of new questions.
Closing her eyes she tried her best to imagine a life without magic, a life where no fictional tales existed, where there's no lycantrophs, no witches, no mermaids nor any fairies but all she saw was utter darkness. A pool of loneliness and pain, a pool filled with the questions she still faught hard to answer.
" You know, you should just say a no. " She heard Zoe's voice before she felt someone occupying a seat beside her.
" Ella wouldn't be happy. " She replied, her eyes still closed. Of course she won't be happy with her no, she was the first one to dance with joy when the letter came. The letter which forced her to be in this situation.
" She'll still respect your decision. Rebecca she loves you and is just worried about your future, nothing else. " Zoe spoke, her words filled with honesty and sincerity. Rebecca too knew this from the start, of course she's worried! who won't be? It's not like everyday their kid gets a letter from the best medical college of states and she rejects it saying she wants to be a writer and not a doctor!
A writer, the mere mention of that word makes her heart pick it's pace. Right from the day she read her first novel she knew what she wanted to become but that has been way too long after she lost her memory. Way too long after she had already told Ella that she wanted to become a doctor so she could help those like her, those who lost their memory just like she did!
" Mom wanted me to give this to you. " Zoe gave her another similar envelope, just like the one she received from Trants, but with a different seal. With a seal she had spent dreaming of for the past few months.
She turned to look at Zoe, her eyes asking the question her lips couldn't say. " It came the same day when Trants one came. Mom wanted to see your reaction for Trants first so she decided to hide it. " Zoe explained, handling it to her.
Rebecca's eyes sparkled with joy, just like when a kid gets his most awaited toy. She wanted to jump, to yell, to tell the whole world that she had been selected in Flocks, the biggest university for writers but some part of her stopped her from doing so. The same part which wanted to make Ella happy, make the lady who took care of her just like her own mother happy.
" You know I feel so jealous of you! You got selected in both the biggest universities that too without even trying much! " Zoe said, trying her best to lighten the mood.
" Can I please be-"
"Alone? Sure. " Zoe completed her sentence and left even before she could thank her for understanding her so well.
Now that Rebecca was alone, she could think of what she actually needed to do. Earlier she was somewhat confused, a doubt filled her mind of whether she would be selected in Flocks or not. Maybe that was one of the reasons why she actually considered forgetting about being a writer but now it's all clear. She saw both the roads clearly, one which she wanted to travel on and the other of Ella's choice.
It was not like what Ella wanted was not her dream, she somewhere still felt like she must help those like her, those who have lost their memories and are now struggling to find even their true identity but there was another big reason that stopped her from knocking on the gates of Trans university. The fear that has somehow made its home in her mind, the fear of pressuring herself too much to again go into a state of coma, the state where she had been for almost 6 months after Ella found her.
" what am I gonna do? " she thought, looking straight at the now setting sun.
At a distance she spotted Zoe and Louis playing tennis. Louis too had suggested her to follow her passion, he even helped her in getting her first book published. From a distance they two looked like a perfect couple. While Louis was tall with a suntan complexion, his hairs dark brown and his eyes a perfect black, Zoe had Burnett hairs and too was somewhat equal to Louis in his height. Her eyes were light brown and skin of light tone. They both were just perfect.
Rebecca was busy in her thoughts, wondering if she would have not lost her memory in that accident then she might have not met them both too. But then, maybe she had a perfect life, not like this one isn't perfect but one with no questions of who she was or what had happened which made her go into coma and loose her memory.
Ella had told her that she was found lying on the seaside, almost dead. She was instantly sent to hospital where she remained for the next 6 months until she recovered and when she finally came out of coma, they realizeed she had lost her memory. That was when Ella decided to take her under her guidance, just like she did to Louis when his parents died in car crash but Louis's case was different. His mother was Ella's best friend so he knew her since childhood while for Rebecca--
" Are you Rebecca? " A little voice and a tug on her leg brought her out of her thoughts.
She looked down to find a girl, no more than 5 looking at her with curious eyes. " Yes I am. " she replied with a smile on her face making the girls eyes spark with joy.
" Mommy! Mommy! Look! I told you she's Rebecca!! " the girl called her mother with a voice so excited that it made Rebecca doubt if she was the correct person the girl was searching for. Before she could say a word to the young girl, her mother came running to her side and picked her up in her arms.
" I'm sorry from her side, she's actually too excited to meet you. " her mother apologized with sincerity but Rebecca was still unable to understand what was actually going on.
" Mommy told me your stories! The one of mermaids and fairies! They are all amajing!!" the little girl spoke with so much adoration that for once Rebecca felt her heart jump out of her chest. How could she stop writing when children like this girl enjoy so much hearing her stories! How could she take away that spark from those innocent eyes! How could she!!
" you are the best!! You know I have a dress same as Kira from your book! " The girl blushed, showing her dress to Rebecca and it made her feel the uttermost satisfaction, the feeling of pure bliss. Of course she cannot do this, she cannot take away those millions of smiles and dreams these kids have when their mothers read her stories to them!
" I'm sorry, we shouldn't have disturbed you! " her mother started apologizing again and was about to walk away when Rebecca stopped them, an idea suddenly pooping up in her mind.
" what is your name darling? " she asked the little girl as she walked closer to her.
" Kira! Just like princess Kira!!" she spoke with joy. As if it was her most favorite topic to discuss about.
" So Princess Kira, would you mind doing me a favor? " Rebecca asked, her mind going on the possibilities of what will the outcome be?
" Anything for you!! " Kira jumped from her mother's arms and stood straight like a warrior.
" so, will you call all your friends who reads my stories? I'll give you one of my real Kira's dresses if you do this for me. " Rebecca spoke and Kira's mother interfered, not wanting to trouble her anymore than they have already done.
" it's not needed, really!" She said, trying her best to drag the young girl away but she was far more stubborn.
" No, actually I really need this help!" Rebecca said as she tried her best to convince Kira's mother.
" I'll go call my team!! " Kira chirped and left before anyone could say anything to her.
" So, what's going on? " Louis asked as he neared Rebecca, having a smile plastered on his face.
" you'll find out! " She replied with the same excitement and he looked at her with shocked expression.
" Wow! You are back to life!! How did this miracle happ-"
" Miss Re, here are my friends! " Kira jumped in Rebecca's arms, cutting Louis in mid sentence.
Turning around Rebbecca saw the same expressions on every kid's face. A look of adoration, a look filled with excitement and happiness. Just this one look and Rebecca finally knew her answer, the answer she had struggled to get for the whole past week.
" You really are Miss Re!!" the kids jumped with excitement and circled around Rebecca, as if she was their most favorite candy.
" So? I want to ask for all of your help. Would you warriors be kind enough to help me? " she asked bending to their level, feeling totally blessed that God sent these children for her rescue! Sure, kids were incarnation of God!
" Us helping Miss Re?" one of the kids kept his fingers on his cheek as if thinking hard.
" Hmm... Why not!! " He jumped with excitement and Rebecca smiled at him.
" What can we do for you miss Re?" Kira asked still busy in her dream world.
" you need to answer my questions. Would you do that? " She asked all of them and they all replied with chorus yes and why not. Everyone else in the surrounding had already stopped to look at the scene going on, few couples even discussing about how comfortable kids were around Rebbecca. Louis and Zoe too saw the scene from a distance, they too unable to digest the fact that it's the same girl from just an hour back.
" how much do you like my books? " She asked, starting with the most basic question. Her heart was running a thousand miles as the kids looked at each other, as if asking for each others opinions.
" More than we like our chocolates! " they all yelled in unison. Everyone around was shocked, trying their best to digest the fact that kids have chosen Rebecca over chocolates. Rebecca on the other hand felt tears brimming in her eyes with the amount of love these kids showed her.
" What if I say I can't write anymore stories? " She questioned again, her heart dropping in her chest just by the mention of those words. Whispers started among the kids and even before anyone could answer a girl arrived from behind the trees.
" Then I'll stop believing in magic and fairies!! " She yelled and ran towards Rebecca with full speed. The kids gave a shocked expression at her presence, as if they never expected her to be there.
Within seconds the girl was in Rebecca's embrace, looking expectantly at her as if waiting for her to show any reaction. She was a tiny blonde, her eyes a light shade of blue with a milk-white skin. There was something in her Rebecca couldn't put her hands on, she felt somewhat familiar yet unknown.
" Rose!" A lady yelled from behind. She was in her mid 50ts, with the same boring expression on her face.
" You shouldn't have came here! I'm sorry if she caused any trouble! Let's leave rose! " she ordered and left while dragging her behind her. The little girl walked away without any efforts yet her little eyes told Rebecca of the answer she needed.
" So it's Flocks? " Zoe whispered in her ears and Rebecca simply nodded, her eyes still locked with the little girl who in just a few minutes had somehow managed to capture her heart...
