“It’s where the first aid kit is,” she said, and extended her hand to him. Blake wasn’t going to double check, he wanted her trust. Pushing away from the chair, he took her hand and let her lead him down the hall to the stairs, where she flipped on the light that he had fixed earlier in the night to ingratiate himself with her. As they ascended the stairs, he told himself that he shouldn’t be apprehensive about this because this was the whole point of the exercise. He had to get close to this woman.
