A twig snapped behind some thick holly shrubs to his left. Parrish instinctively took out his handgun, kept hidden under the winter coat he wore. He realized his reaction probably just warned any would-be killer he was armed. Well, good. If they knew he carried a weapon, maybe they’d stay the hell away from him. Parrish didn’t feel rattled just because of Brandon’s warnings. He also felt that somebody had been following him since he left the high school. He scanned the grounds. A couple of students moved in the direction of the student center, and they were pretty far off, but that was it. He picked up the pace toward his building and got his key card ready. When he finally reached the well-lighted steps, he sighed in relief. He paused to scan the campus one more time before going inside.
