The water poured down from the sink, a soft shuffling of plates filling the room. Sebastian breathed out a shuddered breath, his heart felt heavy in his chest. He rounded his counter, standing a few feet behind Gabriel as the other man squirted a small amount of soap into the water.
“You know,” Sebastian started, forcing himself to remain leaning against the counter, to not wrap his hands around Gabriel’s waist. “You don’t have to wash the plates, I can wash them later.”
From over his shoulder, Gabriel cast Sebastian an almost suspicious smile. “You mean the maid will wash them?” He asked, his voice doused by the slight teasing tone. In that moment relief washed over Sebastian though he could still see the tension that wrapped around Gabriel…he was trying to be nice, like they were friends. Sebastian considered the thought for a moment.
“No, I mean I’ll wash them,” He protested, smiling at the soft bubble of laughter that filled the room from Gabriel. Sebastian watched in awe as he flung his head back, his curly hair falling over slightly, it was a beautiful sight for him.
“Really?” Gabriel curved a brow in mock curiosity, “I doubt it. Washing plates is a very traditional art form you know. It takes years of experience to do it. Experience I doubt you have,” He went on to add, the taunting smile still on his face. Sebastian raised a brow pushing himself off the counter as he stood a few feet behind Gabriel. He leaned in slowly,
“I think I have enough experience,” He whispered into the other man’s ear. Gabriel froze as he felt Sebastian’s lips brush against his ear, turning sharply, his lips come into brief contact with Sebastian as he faced him.
Sebastian could see the panic and fear settle into Gabriel’s eyes as he realized he was stuck between the sink and Sebastian.
He swallowed hard, his chest rising, lips tingling from the sensation of Gabriel’s lips touching his, teasing him with the kiss he so hopelessly desired. He softly licked his lips, drawing Gabriel’s eyes to them. He could see his hunger reflected in Gabriel’s eyes, only there it was mixed with fear and panic. Slowly, hesitantly, Sebastian gripped Gabriel’s waist, silently preparing himself for the rejection, but it didn’t come.
He stared down at the other man, their breathes mingled as they both stood there, unsure what to do. In that moment Sebastian calculated what he could do. Kissing Gabriel could mean being one step closer to getting him back, or he could just lose him if he rejected him.
He could be pushing him too far, too soon. He had lived the last couple years of his life making decisions that meant life and death, but this was somehow the toughest decision he’d ever had to make in a while.
Gabriel blinked, slowly starting to withdraw from Sebastian. Panic took over, adrenaline bursting through his heart as Sebastian leaned down, his lips pressing against Gabriel’s.
His heart felt like it exploded in his chest, his mind going numb, desire heated his blood as Gabriel responded to the kiss fiercely. Their lips moved against one another hard, like this was their last kiss…or their first after years apart. He’d been more anxious about the kiss then he’d thought, scared it wouldn’t be the same as before. But it was better, like his body remembered everything about Gabriel.
He felt like a drowning man finally getting a few breaths of air. But he didn’t want a few breaths. He wanted to breath. Gabriel’s hands went into Sebastian’s hair, softly tugging at the strands and earning a groan. Sebastian pulled Gabriel closer to him, feeling his erection press against his body, causing another groan to roll curl up his throat.
Sebastian didn’t want the kisses to end,He curled his hands around Gabriel’s neck, caressing his jaw as the kiss deepened.
From the back of his mind, he could hear a phone vibrate. Gabriel pulled away sharp, like he’d been burned…or more accurately like he realized what he was doing. His eyes we’re wide, lips pink and slightly swollen from the kiss as he quickly shifted his eyes from Sebastian, moving towards the phone.
Sebastian stayed in the same spot, panting in barely contained desire, his lips still tingling from the kiss he’d stolen. He knew what was coming next, Gabriel wouldn’t stay. The thought burned in his chest, his penthouse had never felt more alive than when the other man was with him, he had never felt more alive than to have Gabriel there. There wasn’t a feeling that could surpass it. Gabriel cleared his throat from behind Sebastian, earning his attention.
There was noticeable regret in the man’s features, and the regret felt like a hard punch to Sebastian. He had to remind himself it was his fault everything between them had crumbled.
“That was my assistant,” Gabriel’s voice took a more formal tone, though the huskiness still remained, Sebastian noted. “Alexander called; we have a meeting this afternoon.” He added, clearing his throat slightly. Sebastian nodded at the information but made no show of moving from his spot as he admired the way Gabriel looked in his clothes, they were slightly too big for him, but he looked damn adorable in them.
The sweatpants were lose, but Sebastian could see the clear indication of what his kisses had done to Gabriel, a small smile threatened to break through his face as he realized that Gabriel wasn’t that immune to him.
Gabriel shifted uneasily from one foot to another, reminding Sebastian of when they were younger. His lips tugged up slightly, “You still haven’t stopped the nervous shifting?” He mused, trying to bring back the cheerful atmosphere. Gabriel stopped shifting and glanced at his bare feet, a small frown creasing his brow.
“I guess I haven’t,” He shrugged, and made no other comment. Sebastian held back the sigh that wanted to seep out, already aware that the only thing the kiss had done was push Gabriel that further away, they had taken one step forward and two steps back at this point. And the worst part was, it was all his fault.
---------------
“How would you like us to do this?” Gabriel asked, his hands turning the steering wheel as they rounded a corner. His house was near, a fact he took much joy in. It was suffocating being in the car with Sebastian, given what had just happened between them a few hours back at Sebastian’s penthouse. Gabriel could feel his lips still tingled, he turned slightly, running his tongue over his lower lip.
“The place he has us meeting him is public, I’ve been there a few times. But I doubt we’ll seat near witnesses, he’ll want us isolated so if anything goes wrong he can easily dispose of us and leave no evidence.” Sebastian said, shifting slightly off the seat as he pulled up his shirt. Against his better judgment, Gabriel’s eyes drifted to his exposed torso, then shifted to his back as he remembered the scars.
Sebastian pulled out two guns from the waistband of his jeans, angling them carefully.
“Do you know how to use one?”
“No, I’ve never had a reason to learn,” Gabriel muttered, turning his eyes back to the road.
“Understandable, I’ll teach you how tomorrow, but for now. You pull the safety off when you want to shoot, aim and pull the trigger, when you’re done safety off. And please don’t hurt yourself,”
Gabriel turned the last corner, his house coming into full view. He gripped the steering wheel a little tighter as he heard the pure concern in Sebastian’s voice. It hurt how easily his heart could melt for the man, but he wasn’t a stupid teenager anymore. Hardening his heart, he loosened his grip, “You’re one to talk,” He faltered, hesitant of his next words.
“How did you get the scars on your back?”
Gabriel could feel Sebastian tense besides him, he didn’t dare shirt his eyes as he drove down the driveway, passing the few trees along the road. The car had gone deadly silent by his question, his eyes were tempted to turn, to look at Sebastian, But this time his will was greater than his desire.
“It’s a long story,”
Gabriel parked outside, turning the engine off as he pulled out the keys. He shifted in his seat, looking at Sebastian with finite concentration.
“We have a few more hours before the meeting,” His voice softened, almost to a whisper as he grabbed Sebastian’s arm, drawing the other man’s gaze to him. “I want to hear it.” he meant every word he said, no matter how much he didn't want to admit him, he'd kill the person who hurt Sebastian.
