Bridget picked up the phone a bit frantically as she thought she was absolutely losing her mind. She had shopped three more orders the day before and during each she had heard loud voices. Very loud voices that no one else seemed to hear.. and felt emotions that were in no way connected to her own feelings of shopping. Anger. Sorrow. Desperation. And after her last order when she had driven past a bar and was overwhelmed by dizziness and nausea. She had called her best friend again.. still no answer. So she had gone home and slept. Her dreams were filled with the strange occurrences of the day. Calling her bestie was her first thought when she opened her eyes.
Heather answered after the first ring as she often did with a cheery hello- the first letter being cut off in her excitement to answer. "Heather- I need to come see you, I'm driving there right now," Bridget stated.
"Um, OK sure!" Heather replied, "is there a particular reason?"
"I'll explain when I get there let's just say I think I'm going crazy.. but I'm going to jam out to some Sublime on the way there.. I'll be there as soon as I can." Bridget made the drive from Tampa to Saint Augustine which usually took her over three hours in two and a half. Heather greeted her best friend at the door with a smile on her face but a slightly concerned look. "What's so important you had to drive all the way here to talk to me about?" she inquired.
Bridget almost gasped out loud when her friend opened the door. A faint golden glow circled her best friend. As Bridget tried to wrap her mind around what she was Seeing, her mind saw two pink cords reaching out from Heather's heart and her own, meeting in the center and forming a pink beam of light. Music sang in Bridget's mind, a different song than she had heard with Shane, melodic and innocent. She gazed at Heather in confusion.
"Bridget?" Heather asked, concern growing in her eyes. "Lady, are you ok?"
Bridget shook her head to clear it and smiled with fake cheer. "Nope, pretty sure I'm losing it," she exclaimed and laughed. She followed Heather inside, still laughing, and took a seat next to her on the couch. Her laughs quieted and she began to explain what had been happening the last couple days. She stared with what she had experienced with Shane, then continued to tell her about the voices she had heard since. The emotions that seemed to come from nowhere. The strange lights she was beginning to see everywhere.. the only thing she omitted was what she'd experienced when Heather opened the door. She would explain that part later but for some reason, the time didn't seem right now.
Heather stared at her best friend, her eyes wide. "So let me get this straight," she began, "you are hearing things? And seeing things? Inside your mind?" Her voice was full of concern. "Lady, I'll be honest, I'm worried. You've been under a lot of stress lately. You need to take a few days and relax, I'm sure your mind will stop playing tricks on you if you do."
Bridget looked back at her friend in despair. She wasn't sure what exactly she had thought her best friend was going to say, but apparently Heather agreed that she was going f*****g nuts..
"You are right," Bridget said. "I have been under a ton of pressure lately and I'm probably just over stressed. I'm going to head home and take a few days off. Maybe that will calm my mind." She stood up to go. Heather shook her head in confusion.
"No sweetie," she exclaimed, "not now silly, you just drove all the way here!!"
Bridget shook her head at her friend and sighed. "Lady, I love you but I'm so confused. I have no clue what is happening to me. I think maybe the drive will help clear my head. I'll see you soon lovely!" She stepped forward to hug her bestie goodbye. As they hugged, again Bridget heard the beautiful music in her mind. More confused than ever, convinced she had lost her mind, Bridget turned and walked to the door. Heather followed behind her as Bridget walked back outside, her mind screaming at her to say SOMETHING to comfort her friend but she could think of nothing to say..
"Are you sure you have to leave?" Heather began softly, "maybe you should at least lay down for a few minutes before you go.."
Bridget shook her head sadly. "No lovely," she replied, "I'm sorry but I think I need to be alone. But you know I'll probably call in a few minutes when I'm on the road!" Her words ended with a slight laugh. Heather smiled, it was true, they spoke for hours every day, off and on, as little things happened that they HAD to call and tell each other about.
"Ok lady, if you are sure," Heather replied, feeling slightly helpless as Bridget got in her car. She watched her best friend drive away, concern evident in her eyes. She was totally bummed, she hadn't seemed to help at all! Heather rolled her eyes a little at herself and went back inside to wait for Bridget to call..
