chapter 4

540 Words
Ginger Nan blackballed me. I called him a few times when I left the restaurant. I couldn't get through. 'You've gone too far.' 'This is too much and too fragile.' Ash Whitewing thought, 'Does he know you've been married?' I didn't say anything. I didn't think it was important. Bai Wenxin smiled more. 'I don't need to be condescending, but I'll send you autographed photos now and then.' Bai Wenxin stopped joking when he saw I was speechless. 'I've said all I have to say. I have one condition.' You have to be at all the shoots during the endorsement period. I didn't understand. 'Who told me never to appear in front of you again?' 'If you had been so obedient, we wouldn't have come to this point.' Bai Wenxin spoke mockingly, 'I've been having too much fun lately and want to find someone to disgust myself.' Me: Nice niche fetish. I agreed to Bai Wenxin's conditions. The marketing department sent me the spokesperson report. I looked at the zero at the end of the turnover. I didn't want to mess with money. The progress bar is at the end of the month. I was lonely. I hadn't seen Jiang Nan in a while. This was new for us. Jiang Nan was younger but took care of me more. Jiang Nan knows when I'm on my period better than I do. No matter how busy he is, he'll come over and make me soup. When I'm busy, I don't always have regular meals. But Jiang Nan always cooks for me at the weekends. He was kind and thoughtful, more than I expected from a lover. I didn't think about it. Jiang Nan made the winters more bearable. I didn't think about marrying him. I didn't think about breaking up. On Monday, I gave a talk at Jiang Nan's college. I had put off the event. I thought about it and agreed. I texted Jiang Nan before I went. 'I have an event at your school today, want to chat?' The message dropped like a stone. The classroom was packed that day. I couldn't find Jiang Nan in the crowd. I was frustrated. But I had to pick myself up and deal with all the questions posed by the college students. He stood in black, silent. He blended into the night. Jiang Nan was always like this. He never looked at his phone while waiting. Waiting is the most important thing for him right now. I like that. Then I felt calm. He was back to his usual self. I was ready to go and meet Jiang Nan at the end of the event. I was called back. 'Sister, wait!' I looked back and saw footsteps. I thought for a moment and said, 'Ruan Jing?' 'Long time no see!' Ruan Jing hasn't changed much. He just dresses differently. He looks like an art student now. Jiang Nan has been with me a long time. He still wears black all year. I had nothing to say, so I nodded and left. Ruan Jing followed. 'Do you have time next?' I was about to say no when a voice cut in. 'She doesn't.' Ruan Jing turned. 'Jiang Nan, are you talking to me?'
