CHAPTER FIFTY- ONE
MELINDA
"Melinda." He called my name.
"I will tell you. I promise. But not today. I can't handle any more today." Fresh tears fell. "Please just let me have a little more time."
"One week," he said. "You have one week to tell me whatever else you're hiding. After that, I'm done waiting."
"Okay. One week."
He pulled me back against his chest, holding me while she cried. This wasn't over, not by a long shot. I'd expected him to yell more, to rage at me for the deception. Instead he'd just looked heartbroken, which was somehow worse.
"Come on," he said finally. "You need to eat something. You're skin and bones."
He led me to the dining room where Maria had set out food. I picked at my plate while Kieran watched, his expression unreadable.
