CHAPTER NINETEEN KIERAN'S POV I sat in my office with the security feeds pulled up on my computer screen, something I rarely did because monitoring the house felt excessive even by my standards. But tonight I couldn't help myself, I needed to see what Melinda was doing when she thought no one was watching, needed to understand who she really was beneath all the fear and deception. The camera in the library showed her curled up in one of the leather chairs near the window, a book open in her lap, her hair falling forward to partially hide her face. She'd changed out of the dress she'd worn to the city into something simple and comfortable, soft pants with an oversized sweater that made her look smaller than she actually was. She turned a page slowly, her finger tracing along the lines
