I don’t know how Erebus is doing it, but magic is clearly at work. He speeds away from me, shifting into his wolf mid-stride, his transformation seamless, his sprint unnervingly fast. I run. Faster than ever before. My widening strides tear at the bottom of my dress, the fabric ripping as I push myself beyond my limits. I have to catch him. I have to end this—right here, right now. Not just because of the infected bitten I am actively fleeing, but because, deep in my core, I know this is it. Rain pelts my face, sharp and relentless, each drop like a needle against my skin. The ground is slick beneath my bare feet, but I barely register it. I sense Atlas just behind me, relentless in his own pursuit of Erebus. A deep boom of thunder roars overhead, rolling across the sky like the growl
