Abby slipped upstairs to change her clothes before Jack arrived. It wasn’t long after she returned to the salon that he actually walked through the doors. “Hey. You look nice, pretty lady.” She smiled from behind the register. “Thanks.” Abby stuffed the bills into the bank bag, followed by the checks. “I ran upstairs to freshen up and change. I didn’t want to smell like hair coloring.” “Anything but,” he said, taking a whiff of her cologne from across the counter. “I just have to secure this, and I’ll be ready.” She lifted the bank bag before she turned away. “Be right back.” Abby hid the bag of money and checks in her secret spot: the dirty towel hamper.
