"One of the patients has already moved to a room upstairs, the other one is still in the OR for blood transfusion and the last patient is still under observation in the ICU." The doctor said, who just came out from the operating room after three hours of operation.
"Will they be okay, Doc?" Lexi asked with full of hope in her voice.
"We will do our best, but for now let's hope there's no vital organs damaged so let's wait for the results of the test we conducted to two patients."
"Doc, we need the names of the patients—."
"That's unnecessary." The surgeon cut off the nurse. "The director firmly ordered that we can't ask for any information about them nor write any reports that these young adults were here."
"Copy, Doc." The nurse said and she turned her heels and walked away.
The doctor looked back at the teenagers and his eyes landed on Chantelle. "Rest assured that you guys are safe here. But for now, just go visit your friend upstairs and.." He paused as he put his hand on top of Chantelle's shoulder. "It was nice to see you again, Chan.." He smiled and patted Chantelle's head before he went back inside the operating room.
"Do you know him?" Siena asked as soon as the door closed.
"Yeah, he's my uncle."
"That explains why they are protecting you." Iris said with a shrug of her shoulders. "Let's go check on Denver."
"You guys go ahead, I'll wait for Trevor."
"Lex, you're gonna wait here forever. They won't let Trev leave that room until tomorrow, so let's go and you need to rest." Chantelle grabbed her arm and dragged her forcefully with her towards the elevator.
Lexi doesn't really have enough strength to protest so she just let her take her wherever. She needed to take a rest anyway since she had concussion to the side of her head due to the strong impact as she was thrown away to the built-in countertop inside the camper van.
As they got to the said floor where they could find Denver's room, the teenagers kept their heads low to avoid being recognized. There are still a few patients' relatives walking around.
Some of them looked so stressed because of their relatives inside the hospital, some were just wandering around because they got bored while staying next to their patients, while the others just wanted to breathe some fresh air since the smell of medicine in a hospital wasn't really likeable to inhale.
Lexi twisted the knob to room 230, and there was Denver, looking outside the open window and he's welcoming the cold wind entering from it. He turned to see who enters and immediately smiled when he saw his friends.
"How are you?" Siena asked as she sat at the lower edge of the bed.
"I could feel nothing." Denver replied with pouty lips.
"You must still be under anesthesia." Lexi patted his head. "But we're glad you're safe."
"The doctor said that I could still walk since the operation was successful, but it will take years before it happens."
"To be honest, I was expecting to see one leg, but miracles do happen sometimes, don't you guys agree?" Iris jokes while holding back her laughter.
"Shut up." Denver hissed and rolled his eyes but when he turned to Chantelle, he smiled again. "Thanks to your parents for helping us."
"That's the least thing they could do after abandoning me." Chantelle snorted.
"Where's Trevor anyway?" Denver asked when he didn't see him with them.
"He's in the operating room." Lexi replied while pouring water to a glass and handed it to Chantelle and the latter smiled but Iris and Siena looked at her feeling so betrayed.
"What? Why?! Is he in danger too?!" Denver exclaimed. Because as far as he could remember before he passed out, he saw Trevor totally fine and with just small cuts in his arms and face.
"Jisu, she needed blood and Trevor is the only one compatible with her."
"Oh, how is she and Blake?"
"We still have no update about Blake but they said that he's in ICU. Jisu is still in danger because she lost a lot of blood." Lexi said, walking back to the table at the corner and picked up the pitcher of water and gave it to Siena, who looked at her in mocked surprise.
"I hope they will be fine." Denver sighed but he chuckled when he saw Siena's hilarious reaction to what Lexi did to her.
"They will be fine, you should not stress yourself because you need to take a lot of rest too."
"I know, but I'm confused and worried at the same time." Denver looked up to Lexi, the latter didn't say anything and just stared back at him, waiting for Denver to proceed. "We are in a hospital, isn't it dangerous? What if they would recognize us?"
"This hospital is owned by Chantelle's parents, they also informed everyone in this place to keep quiet, so we're safe. At least for now." Iris said after she emptied the glass she waa holding and gave it back to Siena so she could drink too.
"That's great to hear, but I couldn't help but to feel worried about the others."
"Stop being a baby and think about yourself first." Chantelle sneered at him. "They will be—." She was cut off when there was a rapid knock at the door. They all looked at it and became alarmed.
Lexi signalled everyone to go protect Denver just in case it is an enemy. She slowly opened the door and peek to see who it was, and she saw a woman wearing a white dress just like those nurses. Lexi sighed in relief before opening the door.
"Hi, um I-I was just going to check the patient." The nurse said. Her eyes were naughty and looking everywhere but Lexi, which made the latter's eyebrows furrow.
"Are you okay?" Lexi asked. She wasn't the only one who could notice the nurse in distress and also pale, like she saw a ghost or something.
"Y-yeah." The nurse replied as she continued her way to Denver and did everything she needed to do as a nurse.
After she checked everything, she smiled at them, it was an obvious fake smile so Lexi curt a nod to Siena. The latter walked to the door and locked it then stood up there to block the way out.
"Miss, is there something wrong?" Lexi asked softly. She was thinking that the nurse was scared of them since they were all wanted with an order to capture dead or alive.
"H-huh? Y-yes, everything's good." The nurse said, she couldn't even speak without stuttering which gives them more reason to be suspicious about the nurse. "I will go back to my ward—."
"No." Lexi said to cut off the nurse, who's eyes widened when the other girls towered her so she wouldn't go anywhere.
Lexi walked to the corner to get something on the table, a glass to be specific. Then proceeded near the window, she smashed the glass and picked up a sharp piece of it.
On that moment, the nurse knew that she f****d up and there's no way she would get out alive from the room without talking.
"You know us, right?" Lexi asked, her head slowly looking up to meet those pairs of terrified eyes.
"Y-yes." The nurse gulped, she felt like crying but that would give them more reason to be suspicious, so she held back her tears and composed herself.
"Now.." Lexi slowly takes steps towards the nurse with a sinister smile. "Tell me, what's going on?"
"N-nothing. Your friend just needed a rest—."
"We both know that it's not what I'm talking about, right?" Lexi scoffed and she lifted up the piece of glass and showed her the sharp point. "What the hell is going on outside?" She asked again, glowering at the nurse.
The nurse was left with no choice but to speak up and tell them what was going on outside. Her tears started to fall as she trembled in fear.
"A woman threatened me." She started while tears were running down her face. Lexi knew immediately who she was talking about but didn't say anything and waited for her to continue. "She told me to check if you are still here."
"Where is she?" Lexi asked.
"She's at the lobby, she has a lot of men with her and they looked so dangerous. The doctors didn't know about them since they were still busy at the operation room and ICU."
"Okay." Lexi let out a deep sigh and threw the piece of glass outside the window. "I'm sorry about that, but I want you to listen to me carefully."
"P-please, I don't want to die."
"You're not going to die if you just listen to what I will say, okay?" Lexi said kindly to calm down the nurse who's starting to have panic attacks. "Go back to the lobby and tell her that I would meet her at the back of the hospital, alone."
"Lex, that's dangerous." Siena said.
"It's alright, this has to stop or else, she would keep chasing us forever."
"I'll go with you—."
"No." Lexi immediately refused to let Iris go with her. "They need you here, so please. Don't you dare leave them."
"But—."
"I got this. Just relax." Lexi smiled at them as she ushered the nurse to the door and nodded her head to dismiss the terrified woman. After Lexi closed the door behind her, her face dropped as her smile faded and was replaced with a blank face. "Do you still have Blake's dagger?"
Iris pulled out the dagger behind her and threw it to Lexi. "Take care of that or Blake will kill you if you miss or break it."
"Don't worry, this will be back safe and sound." Lexi smiled again as she turned around. She was about to twist the doorknob when she felt a hand on her shoulder.
"Please return safely, Jazen, Jisu and Trevor will get sad if something happens to you." Iris said with her serious face but obviously worried for Lexi. She's not just used to showing emotions especially to Lexi.
"If I don't return, please continue our plan to leave this country." Lexi said before she pulled the door open and left the room.
