Chapter 3

633 Words
After about thirty minutes of the faculty trying to get ahold of the authorities and students trying to get a hold of anyone else outside of the school, it was clear they were on their own for now. Sabrina watched Mr. Monty run his hands through his graying hair for about the thousandth time before she spoke up. “Maybe we should get a hold of other teachers in the building and work on a way out. There has to be a way to get out of the school, and there is strength in numbers, right? You can't possibly expect us to stay in this room till someone shows up.” she reasoned. “That's a stupid idea,” Emma interrupted before Mr. Monty could answer. “No, that’s not stupid, Emma. You're just upset; Sabrina thought of it before you,” Matt intervened. “Shut up, fatso,” Emma growled at Matt. “You’re just interested in getting out of here alive, but no one is going to risk their lives for someone so fat and worthless.” Matt looked defeated, like he was about to cry. Sabrina spoke up, actually standing up out of her seat. “You so much as try and hurt Matt, and that will be the last thing you do! I could care less if you were the prom queen,” Sabrina said. “Matt is worthy of everything good in life. He is a kind soul, unlike you. You're peeking right now. I bet you won't be this popular still after high school...” Sabrina paused, thinking about her next words carefully. “After all, you can't get on your knees to get everything you want in life. You will be used up by the time you are twenty-five, and Mr. Holt would have moved on to someone younger by then anyway.” Sabrina clarified Emma was at a loss for words, but the reddening of her face and neck, followed by the roaring laughter of her peers, was enough to shut her up for now. Though it was clear this wasn’t the end of the conversation. Monty chose this moment to cut in. After all, he had heard the rumors but didn’t think they had any merit. “Alright, you two, that is enough. I would hand out detentions, but we have bigger problems,” He said ‘Now I want everyone to pair up and form a two-file line at the door to the right. I’m going to phone the room next to us to see if it's safe to enter, as well as have the door unlocked for our entrance. We are going to do this one classroom at a time. “He said before phoning the classroom to their direct right. They would need to make it past four classrooms to reach the stairs that lead to the second floor. Sabrina got up and grabbed her backpack that held her lunch, car keys, and a few random school supplies. She looked over at Matt, offering him a warm smile. “Care to be my designated buddy?” she asked, reaching out and offering him her hand. She could tell he was still tense from the mini-tiff with Emma earlier; he visibly relaxed his demeanor as he got up, putting his backpack on his back and taking Sabrina’s hand. Sabrina smiled and gave her friends hand a quick squeeze “Were going to make it out of here together I promise” she said as they walked to join their other classmates all standing by the door waiting for the teacher who was still talking on the phone. Sabrina frowned when she felt Matt’s hand slip from hers. She looked up at him. “What up?” she asked, waiting for his response.
