I stayed still for a long while.
The soft hum of the city beyond the glass windows was like white noise, a distant world far removed from the one I lived in now. I didn’t doze — not really — but I rested, my body finally giving in to the idea that, for once, I didn’t have to be alert. Not right now.
Every so often I’d shift a little, ears twitching, tail flicking unconsciously over the soft blankets beneath me. I breathed in Alaric’s scent left lingering on the air — in the woodgrain, the cushions, the quiet warmth that somehow still clung to this room like a protective charm. It grounded me.
