The sun was dipping low by the time the last mound of earth was patted down. The scent of freshly turned soil clung to the cool evening air, mixing with the faint fragrance of incense burned by the Lunarch during her blessings. For a long moment, I stood there in silence, staring at the burial ground. A sea of warriors rested beneath that earth—wolves who had fought with fangs bared, who had believed in me, in us. My chest felt heavy, but there was also a strange calm settling inside me, like the closing of a sacred chapter.
Ruby nudged my hand with his snout, his wolf form pressed against my side. Even now, he radiated warmth, as if the Moon Goddess herself had left her light within him. I ran my fingers along his fur, grounding myself.
