“You’re not leaving me today, Alice!” I scream through the pouring rain. “No way! No uglies for you today! I love you, Alice! I’ve always loved you!” I hold her up in her seated position with a hand tightly pressed against one of her shoulders. My other hand slides under her opposite shoulder. I lean forward and wrap its length around her narrow and slick back. “No way!” I yell and pull her torso upwards and out of the muddy grave. With every ounce of strength I can muster I pull…pull…pull her out of the grave, and feel every muscle within my body burn. Although I think Alice will fight me, she doesn’t. Limp, she moves with me.
