Chapter 13 The Final ActMina stood completely still. Sofia could read the indecision on her face. Anything she said might be the wrong thing. Roberto screamed again, the volume making Sofia’s ears hurt. ‘Now! Give me back Tarya now.’ The arm around Sofia’s waist was rigid with tension. He released it slightly to adjust his grip and she took her chance. She hadn’t travelled for decades on the road without learning some ways to defend herself. Bending forward swiftly, she dropped to one knee, feeling Roberto’s balance waver. She used his weight against him, pulling him forward. Both arms fell away with the suddenness of her movement and he flipped over her. Air rushed from him as he hit the cobbles. Mina lunged, kicking away the knife he had dropped, then held a hand out to help Sofia up.
