CHAPTER 5

"We’re late,” she said calmly as she walked with Line and Rins toward their campus. She greeted the guards standing at the entrance with a cheerful “Good morning” as they passed by. “They closed one of the streets, so traffic was a mess,” Rins added, fixing her wrinkled uniform after getting off the jeep earlier. Meanwhile, Line was tucking her earphones back into her bag. They were already 15 minutes late for their first class, but instead of rushing, they accepted their fate — destiny clearly wanted the goddesses to be late today. She sighed. It seemed their fate was sealed with being late to Ma’am Susan’s first class, but surely, being blessed means even lateness wouldn't be that big of a deal. When they entered the classroom, attendance was just starting. They quickly sat in the third row. She smirked. Luck was on their side because Ma’am had only arrived five minutes earlier, meaning they made it in time for attendance. “Pauline Ella Mira?” Ma’am called Line for the second time. She nudged her friend, noticing Line was distracted. Rolling her eyes, she spotted Line’s phone flashing with images of topless BL actors. “Always present,” Line confidently replied. She gave Line a sarcastic look as Ma’am continued calling out names. “Wow, 'always present,' as if we weren’t late by 15 minutes. You should’ve said, ‘always late,’” she teased. Line just rolled her eyes and smirked, while she turned her attention to Ma’am Susan, who began her discussion. “Good day, students. Since this is our first meeting for the semester, I’ll go over the syllabus and the grading system.” She yawned while staring at their professor, who, despite her age, moved rather slowly and had an air of strictness about her. “Hopefully attendance counts for a lot of points, so I can make up for it,” Rins whispered, her hands clasped together in a silent prayer. She smirked. “Look who’s talking — the queen of excuse letters.” They both listened as Ma’am Susan discussed the grading system. “For our grading system, check out the last slide, and take note. I hope everyone keeps their enthusiasm this semester,” their professor said, sounding a little weary as she clicked through her presentation. As soon as the grading system appeared on the screen, she quickly scribbled it down in her pocket notebook, the one with a cute cat design. She suddenly heard Rins clap excitedly, so she glanced at her. “Yes! Attendance is worth 20 points!” Rins cheered. She and Line chuckled at Rins’s excitement. When Ma’am dismissed the class, She immediately stood up and called out to some of their classmates she was close to. “Lovely! Angelo! Drinks?” She made a motion as if holding a shot glass. “Girl, we still have orientation later with Sir Ronaldo,” Rins said while applying lip tint, as Line pulled her earphones from her bag. “I’d love to, Leyie, but I’m broke,” Angelo replied as he joined Lovely and their other friends. Leyie pouted at Angelo’s words and glanced at her phone to check the time. “Oh, Sir Ronaldo just announced he can’t meet us today.” Her face lit up as she read the announcement. He had left a presentation they were supposed to discuss later. “Are we going home then?” Line asked, running her hand through her short, shiny black hair. She pouted again, glancing at Lovely, as if pleading to be allowed to tag along with them. But Angelo and Lovely just shook their heads, waving their hands goodbye. “Jocelyn! Denise! You too?” she shouted as she saw more friends leaving with Angelo and Lovely. They just laughed and waved as well. “Jory, don’t tell me…” She narrowed her eyes at Jory, but she just gave her a sweet smile. “I have work later. My boss already called, so I have to go.” Jory hurried to catch up with the others, leaving her holding her waist and fanning herself with her foldable hand fan she had bought online. “Your fan is cute, Leyie,” Rins said, eyeing the fan. “Of course, the owner is cute too,” she replied with a grin, fanning herself. But her friends gave her disgusted looks in return, making her roll her eyes. As they say, betrayers are brought low, while cuteness reigns supreme. “Does Mayue have class today? She hasn’t seen my messages,” Line asked as they walked down the stairs. Curious, she opened her phone to check. “Maybe she’s asleep or busy with her class,” Rins shrugged as she tried calling Mayue. “She’s not answering. She must be asleep,” she said, and Line just nodded, putting her earphones back on. “I thought no one was spending money?” Rins grumbled as she sipped from her medium-sized Slurpee. They were now at a 7-Eleven near their school. They decided to grab snacks here since she was craving one of those brown hotdogs. But just as she was sipping her Slurpee, she accidentally bumped into someone. “Oh, sorry!” she gasped, almost spilling her drink. She glared in annoyance at first but then stopped. Standing in front of her was a tall, tanned guy with a serious aura. Damn, he was hot. She blinked a few times, trying to process the sight of him. Suddenly, she thought of Mayue. “Oh my gosh, this is exactly the type Mayue always describes,” Rins whispered behind her. She quickly glanced at his uniform. “Wait, why is a TIP student here?” she murmured, confused, since his school was quite far from theirs. Before she could think more, she noticed that some of her Slurpee had splashed onto her eye glasses. Embarrassed, she wiped it with her uniform, then turned to him at last. “Ow the hotdog,” Line lamented, looking at the fallen snack on the floor. Leyie sighed in sympathy, staring sadly at her lost hotdog. "Aw my hotdog"
