The brightness and heat of the sunlight on my face pulled me out of my deep sleep. I blinked, trying to adjust to the light, and groggily getting up with a yawn. The room was flooded by rays of the sun, like it was already mid-afternoon. The digital clock on the nightstand however, told me it was still early morning; 9:12 am. I stretched and sighed. My bones felt like they had grown knots in between the muscles and the tendons. To my left, someone had brought in and kept my backpack. Well, Elijah’s backpack. The sadness of losing him settled back in. It’s only temporary; I assured and reminded myself. I would get him back. Soon. I hopped in the shower and took a long, scalding hot shower.
