Chapter 4- The Green’s Family Meeting

1327 Words
Nancy froze with terror at the frightful sight. When she recovered from the shock, she found that Mandy had already driven away with Elvis.   In the car, Mandy opened and shut her mouth, unspeaking. But having hesitated for a long time, she finally asked, “Elvis, since you know that your dad has been poisoned by Shirley, why don’t you get him away from there? Do you really think Shirley will be cowed by your warning and not dare to kill him?”   Upon hearing her words, Elvis gave a thin smile, and said, “All the guests there today are witnesses. They’re smart enough to identify the truth of the whole thing. So if Simon dies, there will be no room for Shirley in the city of Murray. The reason I didn’t kill Shirley on the spot, is to find the real villains behind her. So just put your mind at rest.”   “Now that you have plans already, I believe you can sort it out. Now let’s go to the courthouse and get hitched.” Mandy said with a mischievous look that crosses her face.   “All right, let’s go!” Elvis nodded.   …   An hour later, with a marriage license in her hands, Mandy nestled against Elvis’s chest.   Just like a girl who was the first awakening of love, she murmured, “Will you love me forever, Elvis?”   “Of course, I’ll love you till the end of time. After dealing with my family matters, I’ll hold the biggest society wedding for you, to tell the whole world you are the love of my life!” Elvis replied, and there was an expression of fierce determination on his face.   “Don’t brag. You’re not a hero known all over the world. You’re a hero, but only to me. ” Mandy said with a very sweet smile.   Upon hearing her words, Elvis only smiled and said nothing. His special identity might cause danger to Mandy, but now he was powerful enough to protect her, and he would spend his whole life guarding her.   Soon, the two of them drove back to Mandy’s home.   The moment the door was opened, they saw Nancy standing in the living room in a rage.   “How dare you bring this jinx home, Mandy? You know he will lead our family to disaster, don’t you? Vanguard Group is our biggest customer, and now Shirley is the chairwoman of it. If we offend her, our company will be near bankruptcy!” Nancy snapped.   On her way back home, her mind had been filled with anxiety. She had no idea why Elvis was so fearless now, but he had offended Shirley and Kelvin at the same time, and it was tantamount to stirring up a huge hornet’s nest.   Once Vanguard Group stopped its cooperation with Green Group, the consequences would be too ghastly to contemplate. Furthermore, Kelvin’s men would surely take revenge on Elvis, and Nancy thought Elvis was no match for them.   Elvis stood emotionless as he heard that. After having seen brutal fights and deaths in the past seven years, Nancy’s tart words mattered little to him. Besides, for the sake of Mandy, he could tolerate it all.   “I’m afraid you’ve been exaggerating, mom.” Mandy frowned and said, “Elvis now has no place to go except our house. He and I got our marriage license just now. We’re legally married.”   Upon hearing Mandy’s words, Nancy was incandescent with rage. She bellowed, “How dare you do that? I disapprove of the marriage! You must divorce him, or I’ll disown you…”   Suddenly, the phone ringing interrupted her. She picked up the phone and soon went white as a sheet.   The other end of the phone was Mandy’s grandma, Maria Green. She told Nancy to take Mandy to her at once, for Vanguard Group had stopped its cooperation with their company.   Hanging up the phone, Nancy immediately grabbed Mandy by the arm and hurried out of the door.   Seeing that, Elvis followed them out in silence.   …   Maria lived in a villa next to Nancy’s. At this time, several luxury vehicles drove into Maria’s villa in succession. And soon, the living room was full of distraught people, who were Green Group executives as well as Mandy’s relatives.   With her hand on her cane, Maria sat in the center of the room without a word, eyes casting down.   As soon as Mandy and Elvis entered the room, all the relatives glared at both of them with burning, reproachful eyes.   “See what your daughter has done, Nancy! Why are the two of them still together?”   “We know we have no right to interfere in their relationship, but now because of this guy, Vanguard Group stops its cooperation with us. We’re facing bankruptcy!”   “You must turn him out right now, Nancy! And then, go and make amends to Shirley with Mandy.”   …   Upon hearing the relatives’ stinging rebukes, Nancy could feel the anger growing, bubbling up inside her.   If Maria hadn’t been there, she would surely have slapped Elvis hard across the face. She thought it was him who made her lose face in front of the relatives.   “Do shut up!” Unable to suppress her anger, Mandy snapped, “Without Elvis, Vanguard Group wouldn’t have chosen to cooperate with us in the first place. So now, you ungrateful guys have no right to blame him!”   Going bright pink with embarrassment, the relatives were silenced by her words.   At this time, a young man came forward, and sneered, “Don’t be so damn silly, Mandy. Elvis is now nothing better than a tramp. He’s not worthy of you. If you continue your relationship, our family will fall into a hopeless situation!”   The man was Mandy’s cousin, Gordon Green. He had used to be at the beck and call of Elvis. But times had changed, and his attitude towards Elvis had also changed. Now he was looking at Elvis with contempt.   Seeing that, Elvis sneered inwardly but said nothing.   “Don’t be so nosy, Gordon, it’s none of your business.” Mandy snorted in disgust.   In the past seven years, Gordon had introduced her to a lot of rich men, intending to use her to help him get more interests. So she was quite disgusted with him. Now upon hearing his words, she was unable to restrain her fury.   “You shut up!” Maria stormed, “Gordon has a point. As a part of this family, the family interests should remain foremost in your mind. Break up with Elvis right now, and then go and make amends to Shirley with your mom. You must try every means imaginable to retrieve the cooperation with Vanguard Group!”   Mandy paled visibly at Maria’s words. Maria had high prestige among the Greens. And there was no one in their family who dared to go against her wishes.   After taking a deep breath, Mandy mustered up all her courage and said, “Grandma, Elvis, and I are legally married. If you turn him out, I’ll leave with him!”   Her words brought on a storm.   But the next moment, Elvis, who had remained silent all the while, spoke abruptly, “As a matter of fact, you just want a cooperative partner, don’t you, grandma? With the exception of Vanguard Group, we can cooperate with other companies. So if I can help solve this crisis, will you accept me?”
