Chapter 16- The Biggest Obstacle

1093 Words
“Gordon, don’t forget that I have the right to know everything about Greens Jewelers! As we all know, there’s simply no need to spend 50 million dollars to decorate Greens Jewelers. You’re just attempting to use that sum of money for your personal use. How dare you do that?” Mandy shouted at Gordon, her eyes blazing with fury.   She could let Gordon insult her at ordinary times. But now it was about the interests of those rich merchants and their trust in her, she would never allow Gordon to destroy all this.   “I’m willing to spend so much money on the storefront renovation. And besides, even if I spend 500 million dollars to decorate Greens Jewelers, you’ll have no right to interfere!” Gordon sneered.   Upon hearing his words, Mandy was red-cheeked with rage. But as his deputy, she wielded little power, not able to be against him at all.   “If you dare to use that investment without Mandy’s permission, I’ll let you repay ten times as much that as you use. I mean it.” Looking Gordon straight in the eye, Elvis warned. The rage in his eyes made Gordon blood run cold.   With an effort, Gordon contained his fear. He said through clenched teeth, “You have no right to interfere in our family affairs!”   With those words, he stormed out of the house, slamming the door as he left.   “Don’t worry, Mandy. Gordon is no more than a cowardly bully. I’m sure he doesn’t dare to insult you anymore,” said Elvis softly.   “If Gordon continues to be so unrestrained and reckless, Greens Jewelers will surely go bankrupt under his stewardship,” said Mandy worriedly.   “Just put your mind at rest. An angel came into my dream last night. He said that I would have a successful career and a happy marriage, and my wife would be a jewelry-store mogul in the future,” said Elvis quite earnestly.   Amused by Elvis’s words, Mandy chuckled and nestled against his chest. She looked up at Elvis, and asked earnestly, “Do you really believe that I can revitalize Greens Jewelers and become a jewelry-store mogul?”   “Of course, you’re my wife. And besides, no matter what happens, I will always be with you. I’ll help you.” Elvis replied with a smile.   “But it’s not peaceful recently. You must be on your guard.” Stroking Mandy’s hair, Elvis continued with a seriousness that was unusual in him.  “Well, I will,” Mandy promised at once without hesitation.   She thought Elvis was talking about Gordon. However, in fact, Elvis meant something else.   …   “Boss, I haven’t heard back from those eight killers yet. I’m afraid the mission has failed.” One of Kelvin’s men hurried up to Kelvin and said nervously full head big sweat.   “It’s impossible. Those eight killers are professionally trained. Besides, each of them is armed with a pistol. So how could they fail to kill Elvis?” Sitting in the wheelchair, Kelvin said in disbelief.   He had never expected that those eight elite killers would fail. He had thought they had gone to ground somewhere.   “Has Elvis ever appeared in public today?” Kelvin asked.   ‘As long as Elvis hadn’t appeared in public today, it indicated that those eight elite killers had accomplished the mission. They hadn’t contacted him must be for some reason.’ Kelvin thought to himself.   “It’s said that Elvis was seen in Greens Jewelers today,” replied that man honestly.   Upon hearing his words, Kelvin’s face suddenly clouded over. Now that Elvis was safe and sound, those eight elite killers did fail.   “Damn it! What the f**k are they doing? How could they fail to kill a good-for-nothing? They’re all armed with pistols!” Kelvin yelled at the top of his voice, scarlet with rage.   Since he had been beaten to a wreck by Elvis, his temperament had changed greatly. The more he looked at his maimed legs, the more he hated Elvis. How he wished Elvis could be killed at once. So to make sure those eight elite killers succeed in killing Elvis this time, he had even taken a risk in equipping them with pistols.   He had thought that Elvis would surely die this time. However, he was now safe and sound. On the contrary, those eight elite killers were missing. No one knew if they were alive or dead.   “What on earth happened?” At the sight of the angry Kelvin, Shirley, who had just come out of Simon’s room, sulked.   “Those eight elite killers failed to kill Elvis. I’m afraid they are in danger now.” That man swallowed hard and told Shirley the bad news.   Upon hearing his words, Shirley took two quick steps forward and struck him across the mouth.   “How could that be? Elvis is no more than a good-for-nothing! He’s no match for them at all!” Shirley yelled at the top of her voice, her breast heaving. And rage bubbled just below the surface of her mind.   Elvis was a thorn in her flesh, as well as the biggest obstacle in her plan to seize the Georges’ property.   Now Simon’s system seemed to have recuperated admirably, so he could get out of bed and go out soon. If Elvis was still alive, he would undoubtedly be a time bomb for them. He would let their plan come to light at any time. By then, they would lose everything.   “We must kill Elvis as soon as possible. Otherwise, we will be in great danger. Elvis is no match for those eight elite killers at all. There must be an accident in this mission, or Elvis would never have survived.” After having made strenuous efforts to tame her anger, Shirley reasoned.   At this juncture, she knew someone was needed to come forward to make the plan of the next step.   She turned to Kelvin and continued, “Kelvin, arrange for more of your men to assassinate Elvis again. I don’t believe that he can be so lucky to survive this time!”
