Ace I stood in front of the pile of ashes, and it was still smoking. For a moment, I thought it was trying to mock me. I was still in my wolf’s shape and my sensitive nose reacted to a burning flesh scent more intense than was possible. Resignation was in full force, and I couldn’t manage to inform other patrols about my findings. Nor howled at the foggy sky and the sound of someone’s running reached my ears. I didn’t turn to look; I stared ahead of me and saw a small note nailed to the nearest tree trunk. My wolf gave me control of my body and I changed back into my human form.
