"Yes, Nadia. . . Yes! I've been given an eviction notice. . What am I going to do now?"
"Hold on. . . Evacuate? We can't move to another location now. It's the cheapest rent out here"
"You don't think I know that?"
"How?. . . When did this happen?"
"I just got off the phone with them and that doesn't make any sense. Fine, I'm slacking on this year's rent, but I've only been there for a damn year, it's February. . . The employees. . . Dammit! I'm done for Nadia"
"Oh my God, Larry, I'm so sorry. . . What did they tell you?"
"I have a meeting with the current owner and the buyer tomorrow. I don't know what they want, but I hope I convince them to let me stay. I wouldn't care if the rent was increased"
"I'll be there Larry. I don't understand why we need to evacuate either way or if there's anything wrong with the building or the environment. Why do they want to sell it off? We practically didn't do anything. . . Your rent is due in January, and it is just early February. . . We could convince them you're going to pay"
"The buyer might want to do something else with the building. . . I don't know. . . And, of course, I was about to pay up when the call came in."
"When are you supposed to leave. . ."
"Two months from now"
"Gosh! We'll figure it out, Larry. It doesn't make any sense"
"I hope so. . . I just hope so."
"What time is the meeting?"
"Two o'clock"
"I'll be there. . . It's gonna be alright"
"Okay thanks love"
"You're welcome. . . Don't think about it"
"Yeah bye"
"Bye"
I cut the call off and then found Ana already sitting close to me staring hard at the TV while she sipped her smoothie.
"And what was that about?" Ana asked.
"Well, I might just lose my source of living Ana. . . How about that for the worst day ever?"
"Damn! When you're ready to talk about it we will. . . " Ana said, knowing her, Ana didn't want to hear, she's very bad at consoling people, she'd rather pat my shoulder as she's doing now.
I turned around and laid my head on the arm of my couch, folding my legs in 'What's happening to me?' I thought to myself.
"Hey. . . You're gonna find a way girl. . . It's you. . . You're Nadia, you always got a way" Ana said, caressing my shoulder.
I sighed, smiled, and said "Not bad". It was comforting.
Ana chuckled "I got a great teacher," she said referring to me.
I mean I know I can get another job with my experience, but Larry, I felt so bad for him, and I love this Job, I can't find another in my comfort zone and that's the truth. How do I help Larry?
"But darn! Tony sure is dumb, the white boy doesn't know men don't propose more? I mean a ring in the food?"
"Ana!!!!!!"
"Whaaaaaaaaat?"
****
I woke up to a terrible migraine, I stepped down from my bed and fixed my feet into my flip flops, I looked at myself in the mirror and rubbed my face, I smiled, amazed by how beautiful my hair and face were so early in the morning but then suddenly my smile faded away, I had just remembered what Larry told me last night and then suddenly I was craving "Coffee!" I said out loud.
I know I can make one myself but Nelly's coffee is the best, so I decided to set myself up and clean up nicely for work, even if it's probably at stake right now.
I took on my white crop shirt with two pockets at its front and a brown suit trouser, with my black flats. I just needed something simple for the day. I grabbed my keys and my coat on my way out and rushed down to get a cab.
On reaching the mini restaurant, Nelly squealed excitedly at me and said "Oh my God I've missed you! How have you been, babe?"
"Been great Nelly, how are you and Corner?" I asked and also asked about her son as I walked over to a nice spot I'd been eyeing for a while, every time I come into the restaurant it's always occupied.
"Uh, Nadia. . . That seat is not for others. . . "
"Oh please Nelly, they don't pay for seats here do they?" I sat down anyway, satisfied I finally got a chance to sit there.
"Nadia. . . "
"Please Nelly. . . My usual, I've been craving your coffee and I set out early just to come have it please"
"I'm gonna say I told you so," Nelly said, placing my coffee and food on the table, leaving immediately after another customer came in. I heard her greeting him and was disgusted by his cold reply.
I saw a silhouette of a man pass by, while I drank my coffee and then sat in front of me, I frowned and said to him.
"I'm so sorry, I don't want company, can you sit somewhere else please?" He didn't reply, his eyes stared hard at me as his scowl came down, it looked like he had just realized something. Nelly set down his plate of Italian pasta and he didn't even thank her.
I was so pissed I had to repeat what I said "Sir I don't want the company" but he ignored me, picked up his fork and knife, and started eating.
"I'm talking to a human being, I'm I not?" I questioned furiously.
He chuckled hard, his lips clashing together forming a pout while he chewed, he masticated slowly and licked his lips in such a raunchy manner, that it made me feel as though he had done that on purpose. I could feel my hands tremble and my eyes fixed on his lips watching every movement he made, every gesture. I have to ask myself what has gotten into me because I just met this sexy neatly dressed man.
He wasn't dressed in a suit but his hoodie, sweatpants, and kicks didn't hide his expensiveness, he seemed rich, and he ate with quite an etiquette it made me feel like I wasn't even eating in the right way, I adjusted myself in my seat and took notes of his demeanor, his skin showing no sign of paleness, he placed his fork and knife down carefully, took out a servet paper and dabbed it on his lips. He raised his head slowly after tossing the tissue in his plate and pierced his dark sparkly eyes in mine.
He then dropped his eyes and his lips parted to speak, my body cringed at the action, now I would have to go for a check-up because I couldn't fathom what was wrong with me.
"You barely touched your food. . . Do you not find it tasty?" His voice was husky as ever, it echoed through the quiet restaurant, it was as though he had a mic in his throat. I cleared my throat and wobbled in my seat, I had forgotten I was irritated by his approach ten minutes ago.
"Why the hell would you just sit in front of me? I told you I didn't want any company!"
"After all that checking out, you still act as though you are angry Red"
"Don't call me that and what do you mean by that?" I started now really angry. I hated being called red because I'm red-haired. He was proud and it made me more annoyed knowing he caught me checking him out.
He reached out for his wine glass and sipped on the wine in it, my eyes, couldn't just stop t from staring at the lips, if it were up to me I wouldn't stare but my eyes took charge of my restraint. I found myself mesmerized by his immaculate pink lips, it was a full lips, perfect for a dark flawless skin. I was now able to notice his broad shoulders, huge in his sweatshirt, well not quite but still, I could tell he worked out.
He cleared his throat making me avert my eyes and drop it on my food, I snatched it and forced it in my mouth, I don't know why I suddenly lost my appetite.
"Your eyes. . . " He paused and I looked up at him slowly, suddenly embarrassed. "Keep them on me" he ordered.
"Okay now I've lost my appetite"
"Why?"
"Why?. . . Are you seriously asking me why?" I faltered.
"Yes cause I'd like to know if it's cause of me"
"Wow. . . You came to my space, sat down in front of me without asking for a permit, and tried to converse with me even after I told you I wanted to be alone!" I stated. Already annoyed.
"This is my space Red, not yours, I own this building and this space. . .no one eats here aside from me"
My eyes dilated as I furrowed my brows, I turned to Nelly, she was cleaning the counter when she mouthed "I told you so" to me and walked back into the kitchen.
I turned back to the sexy man In Front of me and realized why he chuckled, I couldn't speak, I didn't want to, I just started burying my fork and knife in my food and decided to eat it, I had a long day and the probability of losing my job or this devil in front of me ruining my day to the fullest will not stop me from eating.
He chuckled mockingly and said, "No you wanna eat". I said nothing and kept eating, my mind wondering why he didn't leave me alone, he was done eating what else did he want? I saw him reach for his wine glass again and place it down after a sip.
He leaned back, and adjusted himself, and just then my mind screamed "damn! That's sexy as hell" and on the other side my mind screamed, "Nadia you have a man that loves you".
My knees were weak, I just met this man, I could not be affected by him, right? His phone suddenly started ringing and he reached out for it and then placed it back down. "You have a birthmark on your neck. . . That's beautiful" he said and it made me look up at him, he was checking me out, and my body felt a rush of tingles just knowing that, he gave me a cunning smirk and that just made the sensations blare inside of me evaporate, I quivered to the feeling. Oh God no, no, no, no, I'm engaged, I can't have these feelings towards another man.
"Damn. . . Did I just witness Red smile?" The strange and voluptuous man said. I hadn't realized I smiled, did I?
"No, I didn't"
"You did"
"No, I didn't"
"Red you are downright flushed, your cheeks are pink".
"What no!" I snapped, reaching for my bag and rummaging through it, I found my mirror and checked my face, he wasn't lying, he wasn't lying?. "Why the hell am I flushed?!" I asked myself not knowing I was speaking out loud.
He chuckled mockingly again now sounding more sexy than before "Did you just ask yourself that?".
"You know what. . ." I was about to say I was going to leave when he cut me off, with a devilish smirk on his flawless face.
"Well, it's been fun Red. . . I will give you peace now but not later" he rose on his feet, me now realizing how tall he was, about 6,3 feet tall, I gulped feeling a little bit weird. He took his coat and slid it in his arms. Oh gosh, how can a man be this perfect?
He sauntered towards me and bent over, making his face very close to my ear, and whispered "See you soon Red". My senses weakened, I shuddered at his words and didn't even realize when he walked away.
After a few minutes of getting a grasp of myself, I called out "Nelly! Who the hell was that?".
