Chapter Twenty

"I will understand if you never want to talk to me again. I'm sorry that I couldn't protect you from Max. I wish that I had been able to do something to help." He said not looking at me.

I tried to get his attention so I could explain why I'm not talking to him, but it was no use. I tried everything short of throwing something at him. Finally Livy walked over to him and told him to look at me. I opened my mouth to demonstrate the fact that nothing would come out, but he didn't understand. Livy doesn't know what exactly happened to cause my loss of vocal use. She tried to help even though Lucious didn't seem to understand any part of what was going on.

The door opened again and it was Luna this time. She wasn't covered in blood now like she was earlier. How's it going Zera? Do you need help with anything? She asked in sign and using the bridge.

I need Lucious to understand why I'm not talking to him. I want to explain, but he's not getting it. I replied over the bridge trying to use as many signs as I knew while moving my lips.

"Are you okay? I mean you're acting kinda weird and you look like you're talking to her without actually making a sound." He was getting frustrating.

With a sigh I tried to sign to Luna again. I can't take this. It's irritating dealing with him not understanding what I'm explaining.

Luna walked over to him and took his hand. Dragging him behind she stopped in front of me once again. She pulled him in between us and forced his forehead to mine creating a bridge between us. Now tell him why you aren't able to talk to him. Luna said.

Lucious I am unable to speak out loud. It has nothing to do with you. Luna is going to help me learn to communicate with others, but we haven't started yet. Please be patient with me. I say hoping he heard me.

"What just happened? How is it that you are talking to me in my head? I'm not a wolf, that's a wolf trick." Lucious said panic stricken. He looked like he wasn't getting the message that I was trying to send. His eyes went wild when he finally focused on my words. "Why can't you speak aloud? I will kill Max for even touching you. In fact I will make his death slow and painful for anything that he did to you." He finally said.

He's already dead. David killed him when we were rescuing you. Luna said to me probably hoping that I would relay the message to Lucious.

I grabbed my stick and wrote out the message not wanting to freak him out any more than he already was. Who knows what he might do if he got any more freaked. I watched him read my dirt scribbles and hoped that he wouldn't fly off the handle, because he couldn't get his revenge.

"David!!! Get out here NOW!" He screamed making the birds fly out of the tree tops. He was running his hands through his hair tousling it further. When I saw the wildness in his eyes I backed away afraid of what he might do.

"What do you want? I was helping pack everyone up to move." David said as he walked out of the back door. I guess he didn't noticed how angry Lucious was because he just walked over to him just to get punched hard enough to send him flying into a tree.

"This is all your fault. She got hurt because you decided to have a little test. I couldn't protect her from that monster. I just made progress and you took it all down and let her get even more destroyed. What were you thinking?" Lucious took a breath and then asked, "Were you even thinking?"

"Lucious, you have to calm down. I didn't know that Max would catch wind of anything going on over here. I didn't know that he had hurt my daughter too. He damaged her voice box too and then threw her out like she was trash. I saw red and killed him. He took everything away from me. I believe that I had the right to kill him. And on top of all that I believe Braiden had the right to seek out his daughter's happiness before you decided that she was yours to claim without any proof of being her soulmate." David yelled back before walking over and punching Lucious with as much force as he could muster. Lucious went flying and I saw a red arch coming from his chest as his feet left the ground.

Luna you have to go get my father please. I don't know if I can stop them from fighting on my own. I say a little on the panicked side. I walked between the men as Lucious stood up with his fists balled, knuckles white. He advanced on David and I could see him getting ready to throw another punch when I decided to stand directly in front of him. He pushed me out of his way and moved even closer to David. I quickly got to my feet and ran, jumping in front of his fist just in time to save David from the hit.

"s**t! Why would you do that? I never meant to hurt you. Oh my god please be okay." He said realizing that he had hit me instead of his brother.

It's not his fault. It's not your fault either. I wasn't strong enough to do anything either but at least I can stop you two from killing each other. I said feeling my eye start to swell.

My father came running out to see Lucious on his knees as white as a ghost and David holding me on his lap. When he got closer he noticed my eye and lost his cool exterior. "WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED HERE?" He growled.

I tried to get up and calm him down, but I ended up getting too dizzy. I couldn't think straight enough to use the mental bridge between us to explain either. Finally Luna walked up and got between them. I know that she had to be communicating with him when I saw his shoulders relax and the anger drain out of his eyes. After that I saw nothing but black.
