Chapter Sixteen

She signaled to someone that we couldn't see. We stayed still and allowed the pack of fighters to come up and smell us. David was clutching his chest when a particularly small wolf started to sniff him. She jumped up and sniffed his hand, knocking him over. He was sweating bad. "Break the bridge, and you won't feel his pain anymore." I told him when the wolves all crowded around him. "I won't leave him to face this alone. I will endure with him, now help me up." He replied with a pained smile. The wolves backed away and nodded to the female fighter. When I looked at her again she signed that we may continue on, but they were all coming with us. I tried to deny them the chance, but she wouldn't allow it. As we continued on our way, one of the smaller wolves started to howl. I think she picked something up. Some trace of a scent. I decided to shift so that I could smell for myself. Sure enough it was Max's scent. He definitely came this way. Everyone was shifted except for David. I don't think he will be able to when he is still connected to his brother. We all continued following the scent trail. I knew that David wouldn't be able to last much longer. We had to hurry if we were going to be able to save him and my daughter. She is counting on us, but there are a lot of huts out this way. Zera is the last piece of my wife that I have left. I can't lose her too. I looked over to check on David, but he wasn't standing anymore. I noticed another large wolf carrying him on his back. I bowed my head in thanks to the wolf. Just then I heard a wolf cry, not a hurt cry but a pleasure cry. It had to be Max, it just had to. The hut was just on the other side of the trees. I rushed to the head of the pack and was turned away by the female that had stopped us earlier. Why wouldn't she let me go save my daughter? She closed her eyes and placed her forehead against mine creating a bridge. Guards. The know what he is doing and they plan on going in there to do the same when he leaves. She said. How are we going to save her then? I asked annoyed with the entire situation. Wait, I will draw them away. They know that I can not scream, so they will try with me instead of her. She said with sad eyes shifting back into human form. No I won't let you get raped by these monsters. I will just kill them and be done with it. There is no need for you to put your body at risk. I knew she wouldn't listen, but I still had to try. She leaned down and kissed my wolf's snout. Removing her clothes she walked out from the trees. I followed to protect her, even if it was unwanted. She is my mate and I am not letting them touch her. I will always love Oddette and I do miss her but she wasn't my mate. My wolf knows who his mate is, and he isn't going to lose her too. David's Pov I noticed the girl from earlier go through the trees and Braiden following her. I figured that they were going to take care of the guards or scout out the clearing ahead. Zera needed help and I know Lucious is down for the count, so it's up to me to save his soul mate. I slid off the back of the large wolf and shifted into my tiger and limped to the edge of the treeline. Seeing that the fighter girl was distracting the guards I sneaked into the hut and headed for the stairs. Unfortunately there were no windows so he was going to smell me coming. Max's head snapped up and he stared daggers at me. "Oh the little w***e's other kitten. Did you come to rescue her?" He asked in a condescending tone. I just growled at him and hissed. I could see that she was injured and needed healed bad. The bed under her left leg was saturated in blood, it was dripping from the bottom onto the floor. "You know Emanuel had the right idea to keep her weak. She can't access her spirits that way, ya know. You look like you're struggling to stay in that form little boy, maybe you should lose it and fight me like a man." He was baiting me and I knew it. My tiger shook his great head and charged at the mad wolf king. I took him to the floor and tried to rip out his belly. His claws dug into my forelegs and tore deep into the muscle, nearly to the bone. I knew that I had to win so I grabbed his throat with my powerful jaws and jerked until it snapped. He laughed. "Was that supposed to kill me? I'm unkillable little p***y. That's why Braiden will never take the throne, you see. I will never die and he will never be king. And as for this girl maybe she will make me a few male heirs for when I decide to leave. She just might be able to unlike your soulmate. She only produced daughters and one of them was yours. I broke her voice box and threw her away. Damn thing didn't die though." He was trying to goad me on. " How was a wolf your soulmate anyways? She was a wolf, not a cat. My jaw started to tighten around his neck. It would only take a couple more pound to sever his spinal cord and choke him at the same time. But I had to know, about my daughter. Where was she? And if this is all true she should be almost 19 by now. She went missing before Oddette did. I can't let him get to me, I have to save Zera. I heard him start to gargle on his own blood, and I waited for the sound to stop before I let him go. I shifted and put pressure on Zera's leg in an attempt to stop the bleeding. "Braiden get your ass in here now!!!!" I all but screamed. He came in with the female fighter in tow. Her eyes went wide and she rushed to help me with the bleeding while Braiden looked for bandages. Neither one gave Max's body a glance, right now Zera was all that mattered. The female broke the chains and lifted her off the bed not even bothering to wait for something to wrap the wounds in. Braiden and I grabbed every rag we could find and followed her outside. My chest still hurt but I wasn't stopping now. I shifted and motioned for her to climb on. Braiden growled at me for some reason but I ignored him. So did she, climbing on my back was a lot easier than I had thought it would be. She did have a hard time holding on to me and Zera as a ran as fast as I could back to the streak house. Braiden stayed close to me, watching. I lost my footing just feet from the house. The pain has gotten worse, almost like my ribs are being ripped out.
