Logan taught for three periods and then nipped out to honour his promise to Hana. He lifted Pete’s car keys from his pocket as he slept and left him locked in the classroom. After a five-minute drive, he found himself at the Five Crossroads shopping centre and strolled into a women’s wear shop. “Can I help you?” the shop assistant asked. Her eyebrows rose in suspicion as Logan poked around in a rail of dresses. “Yes, please. I need a dress for my wife. It’s urgent.” He winced, discomfort oozing from every pore of his skin. The woman’s narrowed expression made him nervous. He imagined she suspected him of cross dressing and the thought haunted him as she eyed him from head to toe with a speculative air. “What size is she?” she demanded, with exaggerated politeness.
