Chapter 31 Unable to sit still, Hana emerged from her room to the sound of more footsteps and new voices, finding two St John’s ambulance-men outside her door. One turned towards her. “Hi, love. Has our advanced paramedic arrived?” She nodded, unable to persuade her voice to croak over the sound of Izzie’s noises. He took a step towards her and took her arm. “Please can I check you out?” he asked, his voice gentle. “You don’t look so good.” Hana went with him to the kitchen and sat in a chair while he measured her blood pressure. His colleague filled the kettle and flicked the switch on so it would boil. She answered questions with robotic monotony and worried about her daughter.
