Saved Again

~Monroe~ Dixon drove like a bat out of hell, fielding phone calls left and right. We are in crisis mode right now, and I need to get to Jaylene. He shouldn't have known where to find her, but now he has her cornered. There's already a commotion when we pull up to Jaylene's apartment complex. Men from my team are fighting men he had stationed outside the building. I guess he figured she would be stopped if she managed to get away. The fact that he has to use force to deal with her is laughable at best and brings up a lot of questions for me. I step out of the car, leaving Dixon to handle everything else. “Boss?” I turn to look into the car. “They will follow you up. There are men outside the door to her place.” I nod and turn away. If I'm a betting man, I'm sure that he has men inside her place as well. The question is: how many? I turn to the team lead who just walked up to me and relay my fears. He nods and starts to speak into his earpieces. When he gives me the ‘go ahead’ I walk into the building. I have men in front and behind me, with the team lead next to me. I walk over bodies and nod to the shell-shocked staff. I'm going to have to clean this up so it doesn't fall on their heads. I know it isn't my doing, but I hardly doubt Deon can be trusted to make things right. We take a few men into the elevator, the others having already gone up. It's best to do this in waves so they don't realize how many are coming. When the elevator stops and the doors open, I see my team making quick work of those who posted outside the door. There were also a few watching the rest of the floor, just in case. They are meeting a similar fate. I hire for skill, and that's always been the case, but I feel that these men Deon has hired are sorry as hell. My men have barely broken a sweat besting them, and it should have been more of a fight. “Please, sir, step back so we can open the door.” I nod and take a few steps back. The door is blown open, and the fighting commences. There are fists flying and grunts echoing in the air. I stand back, waiting to be able to get inside. I'm anxious because I have no idea what's going on in that apartment. She could be hurt, and that would definitely piss me off. I'm given a nod to enter the room. I take my time and step over the bodies strewn about. I think my team needs a raise; they do good work. I walk inside, and my eyes immediately fall on the dining room. Amber is sitting at the table, Jaylene is standing, and Deon is sitting in the chair, staring at the c*****e. I look around my feet before looking back at the group. “What's going on here?” Jaylene is the first to break free from her daze. She takes a running start to get to me, but that bastard grabs her arm right as she's passing him. “You aren't going anywhere!” His hand is straining, his hold tightening. I feel the anger start to climb as I watch the scene before me. “I think you need to let her go. Clearly, she has somewhere else she wants to be.” He stands, not letting her go. “Get the f***k out of here! You aren't welcomed here! No one invited you.” I slowly walk over to the pair, not moving my eyes from him. This is the bastard that has started in many of my nightmares since I was a teenager. Now that I'm looking at him, he's a small bastard, and I hate that I've given him so much power over me for so long. He definitely isn't worth it. I stop moving when I'm about a foot or so away from Deon. My eyes are boring into his, and I refuse to look away. “Let. Her. Go.” My voice is low and dark. I want him to try me; I want to let this thing get physical. “Over my dead body.” So he wants this to happen the hard way. I keep my eyes on him a bit longer, not moving. He's watching me, and I can tell he's anticipating my next move. I briefly glance down at where he's holding Jaylene, and I see that it hasn't lessened up in the slightest. At this rate, she’s going to have irritated skin. Accessing the situation, I see that he's left much of his body exposed. This will be in my favor, and I plan to exploit it. I create fists at my side, making sure the movement is visible. I move forward slightly, moving as if I plan to sock him in the face. I watch his subtle movements; he's readying himself for the hit. I lunge forward with my right fist co.cked and ready. Right before I connect, I quickly switch to my left fist and let that connect with his stomach. He doubles over in pain, loosening his hold. Jaylene hurries to push his hand off her arm and move behind me. I motion for Amber to join us, and she doesn't hesitate. Deon is practically on his knees, and as much as I want to inflict more pain, I'm going to let it go, for now. I bend at my waist, getting closer to his collapsed form. “Have a good day.” The three of us turn and walk away. ~Jaylene~ I'm sitting in the back with Monroe, Amber in the passenger seat, and Monroe's man driving. We've all been silent; Monroe has been on his phone. I can't believe my life has devolved into this. I'm supposed to be on my own, doing my own thing. “Where are we going?” I notice eyes on me in the rearview mirror, but Monroe hasn't moved. I clear my throat and nudge him quickly. He finally looks up from his phone. “Where are we going?” “We're going to my place. You two can stay there for now.” I want to protest, saying that it isn't necessary and that we can find somewhere else to stay. I catch Amber's eyes, and she nods somewhat eagerly. Sh.it! I guess we are staying at Monroe's. I sit back and silently watch the scenery pass. I close my eyes and let my forehead hit the cool glass, letting out a sigh. I really hate my life right now. ↯↯↯↯↯↯↯↯↯↯↯↯↯↯↯↯↯↯↯↯↯↯ “Jaylene?” My body shakes, and I moan, hoping it will stop. “Jaylene.” I slowly open my eyes and realize that the car has stopped moving. Monroe is next to me, trying to wake me up. I stretch a bit before following him out of the car. “Nice digs.” Amber is staring at the house with an amused expression. This is the same house I woke up in not too long ago, but I didn't pay it any attention. The house is huge. House, ha, more like a mansion. I'm standing in a huge driveway that is way past the gate that I vaguely remember going through when I left. I'm not going to sit here and try to guess how big this property is because I have no clue. I can't say it looks like it's three stories and it's vast. The landscape is amazing, and I'm sure Monroe pays a pretty penny for its upkeep. Monroe leads us inside, opening the door and stepping aside so we could walk through. The ground is marble, and I realize I'm in my socks. Sh.it, I didn't even grab any shoes. I don't have my purse or a change of clothes or anything. “I have my team packing some things for you two. You can always buy undergarments on me.” His low voice in my ear makes me jump. I don't know when he came behind me and closed the door. “So, what are we looking at, Rivers? Or should I say Jensen?” Monroe says nothing. He just lifts his eyebrow before walking past us. “Let me take you on a quick tour. Then I will have to leave you two and go into the office. You will be safe here. I have men on the property and an advanced security system, and my staff will be in shortly.” Monroe takes off, and we follow behind him.
