It hadn’t been my intention to insert myself into Tristan’s big announcement like that, but hearing him sound almost like a proud father grated on my already-raw nerves. The words just sort of burst out before I really had a chance to think them through.
Once they were out, there was no taking them back, and I found myself glad I had uttered them.
