16 Everyone at school noticed my triumphant return. Even people who normally didn’t acknowledge me smiled when I made eye contact. My teachers positively lit up when I participated in class. It really was like I had a second chance at life, and I didn’t plan to waste this one. During my dark phase, I had fallen behind on my schoolwork. Although I wouldn’t have colleges falling over themselves to give me sports scholarships, like my brother did, I didn’t want to flunk out of school during my senior year. I intended to graduate and in order to do that, I needed to log some major hours of make-up work. First on my agenda was a literature paper that had been due last week. Mrs. Strawfield was normally a stickler for punctuality, but she had been so delighted by the lifting of my depression
